Global information systems developed coordination within the organization

which is of extreme importance. This is used in solving issues such as responsiveness

of government and markets; a necessity for an organization aimed at reaching the
global scale is already established as one. With the global information systems, there
is likelihood for there to be a transfer of innovations as previously mentioned as well
as enhancement of innovation (Ward & Peppard, 2002). The aforementioned aspects
are required for global organizations in order for them to keep up with the never
ending competition which is a characteristic of the global market. Some of these
organizations have unit based on the geographic with each having a particular role.
This is in accordance with the model presented by Bartlett and Ghosal that illustrate
how these units interact within either decentralized or centralized organizations
(Pearlson & Saunders,

2000). With the existence of various transnational

organizations, the application found within these information systems elaborates on

coordination of the units in term of sharing information, solving problems, sharing of
resources as well as collectiveness in activities and implementations of changes.
Another advantage would be the impact on the decision making (Weill &
Ross, 2004). There is great need to understand on how this process is enacted and the
influential force it has on the organisation. The involved parties that take part in
decision making are required to also capitalise on these systems as their managerial
roles are jointly done with the assistance of the systems (Pearlson & Saunders, 2000).
One of the effects the systems has on the decision making process is that is removes
the uncertainly often displayed by managers as they try and make the organisational
improving decisions (Weill & Ross, 2004). This is basically because they provide the
necessary information that is required and thus placing them at the right position of
making those critical decisions.
