DIWALI

INTRODUCTION:
Diwali is an Indian festival that is celebrated by Indians around the world
every year. It is colourful and a joyous occasion, where we celebrate the
victory of good over evil. Many oil lamps are lit to chase away darkness
and bring light to homes. This symbolizes the casing away of evil.

PICTURES:

Families come together and celebrate Diwali. They wear colourful and
beautiful clothing. Women wear saris and men wear kurtas. Everyone
are bursting crackers and are having fun.

Beautiful artwork known as rangoli are drawn on the floor outside


houses. The drawings are made using coloured rice flour and are very
colourful and elaborate.

Oil lamps are lit to chase away darkness. Darkness symbolizes evil. The
lamps are made of clay and are filled with oil. A string is placed in the oil
and is lit.

Indian women decorate their hands with Henna art. Henna is a


leaf that is plucked from the henna tree. The henna leaves are then
grinded to make a paste. The paste is applied on hands to draw beautiful
decorations.

During Diwali Indians burst different types of crackers and this picture
shows a shop selling a variety of crackers and fireworks.
