Original Poem
Why go after love if it will cause pain
Left heartbroken, unable to endure
Again and again but always in vain
Yet new people always seems to allure
Joyful at first not a thing can compare
Days with no worries, no cares at all
All is great until it leads to despair
Memories once cherished now make you bawl
Love resulting in painful agony
Too rude, too boist'rous, and it pricks like thorn (1.4.26).
Must be left alone with no company
Why come back to a pain that leaves you worn?
Perhaps you need the love to feel complete
This strong passion is what makes your heart beat

One theme that is relevant clearly relevant throughout the drama, Romeo and Juliet by
William Shakespeare is the importance of love. Despite the struggles of both Romeo and Juliet in
their romantic lives once they find each other they will do anything to stay together. At first
Romeo believes Rosaline is the woman he is destined to be with yet she does not return the love
Romeo so strongly desires. Romeo then enters a state of severe anguish and loneliness. This is
represented by the line in the poem why go after love if it will cause pain (Line 1). Romeo
would later find Juliet and immediately fall in love despite their families being enemies. Some of
the days they would spent together were extremely joyous. This is represented by the line, Days
with no worries no cares at all (Line 6). Throughout his entire life however Romeo has
experienced letdowns where love just doesnt work out. Yet, he continued to pursue his true love
as he believes that only being with that true love can make him happy. His love with Juliet
became so passionate and intoxicating that when he believed she was dead he killed himself so
he would not have to be separated from her. The final line of the sonnet states, This strong
passion is what makes your heart beat (Line 14). In the end, Romeo had found his strong
passion in life, so when he thought Juliet was taken from him he felt like his heartbeat no longer
had purpose and that hed rather die to be with her, than live without her.
