Icarus Falling

Scott Wings

Icarus awoke to the sound of tinkering.

Made his way up the stairs to his fathers room.
And he could see through a shaft of light in his father door:
Wax,
Feathers,
Wood
and his fathers hands.
Wax,
Feathers,
Wood
and his fathers hands.
And he watched and watched and watched
as his father began to craft the wax, the feathers, the wood
into something - something like wings.
Wax,
Feathers, wood.
His fathers hands.

And he thought this is how the story goes, right? This is how the story goes. The
wax, the feathers, the wood my fathers hands.

And he watched all night as the wax and the feathers and the wood and his fathers
hands began to take shape and the hands began to come into their old form
but his smile never came back it was just wax.
And feathers,
And wood,
and his fathers hands.
And he thought, you know hes an inventor. Yeah thats right hes and inventor and
hes gonna make wings out of wax and feathers and wood
he will and we then are gonna fly away together.
Hes gonna make these wings and hes gonna test them out. Cos hes an inventor.

Icarus Falling

Scott Wings

Test it together.
Fly together.
On wax,
Wood,
my fathers hands.
Cos this is how the story goes.
And he watched all night.
As the sun began to peak its way over the horizon
The wax and the feathers and the wood were strapped to his fathers backAnd his hands outstretchedAnd he watched as his father took a step to the window sillAnd the wax and the feathers and the wood and his fathers handsdisappeared.
And he thought
this
this isnt how the story goes
this isnt how the story goes!
But this is how the story goes.
Because sometimes parents are shit
And because sometimes they leave you for no reason.
