Lesson Plan

Title: El tango
Objectives:
1. Students will be able to interpret six dance terms in the target
language as well as being able to verbally communicate the six
motions of dance to peers in target language.
2. Students will be able to identify/show remembrance of each of the
following via poll everywhere.
a. The tango is centered in Buenos Aires
b. Identify 2-3 commonly used instruments in the tango
c. The tango is a very free dance with a strong emphasis on sensuality

Presentation:
The presentation will begin with a video displaying a classic
demonstration of the tango. A Power Point slideshow 6 basic movements of
dance in the target language with pictures will be shown.
Aspects of the Tango will be presented in 3 different handouts. A
handout with information about the history of tango, one about
characteristics of tango music, and lastly, a handout about characteristics of
the dance itself.
Drill:
The 6 motions will be first practiced via the game Simon Says, after which,
the students will be asked to pair up and to practice saying the different

actions in target language. The other student must interpret and act out the
action.
The 3 handouts will be debriefed in slides on the PowerPoint and then
questions about information from the handouts will be given via
PollEverwhere.
Assessments.
The game Simon says is an assessment in itself. I will be able to see if the
students can interpret the information that was presented from their body
motions. After which, I will walk amongst the students and listen to see if the
students are pronouncing the actions correctly.
Wrap-up:
The lesson will be wrapped up with a brief class discussion of information
learned that day pertinent to the learning goals led by the instructor. The will
be followed by a very brief lesson in a basic dance step of the tango.
Practice: A short video of a tango will be assigned for the students to watch.
The students must identify in a written manner what dance actions were
executed and at what minute marker during the video.
