I want to acknowledge to all of our faith-based partners, my receipt of a copy ofa
recent interview between Dr. John Milloy, the Truth and Reconciliation
Commission's (TRC) Research Director, and a Trent University newsmagazine.
J want to assure all of our partners that the comments in that interview do not
reflect the position or opinion of the Commission or the Commissioners, It was, in
fact, Professor Milloy himself who brought the matter to my attention, with his
assurance that he profoundly regrets the tone, language, and assumptions cast
within his statements,
Prof. Milloy is, as we all are, under tremendous pressure to produce comprehensive
results within constraints that can be overwhelming, ‘The Trent article, | am
assured, is an example of one’s impatience winning over one’s passion to ‘get the job
done’.
‘The TRC has enjoyed an open, accountable, and productive relationship with all of
our Settlement Agreement partners, and we expect that will continue to be the case. You have my assurance that the TRC does not have any predisposed notions of the
work that lies ahead, for any of us. As you know, we are all engaged in an effort that
has never been undertaken anywhere, by anyone. This will not always be a smooth
journey. However, | have no doubt that we will complete our important work.
In closing I want to express on behalf of the TRG, our regret and apology for the
Professor Milloy interview with the Trent University publication, The comments do
not reflect in any way, the history or spirit of our relationship.
also remind you that am available any time to respond to any concerns you may
have. That is also the case with Commissioners Littlechild and Wilson. Our workis
greater than any one of us, our focus will remain on the task at hand, and we will
complete that task.

‘The Honourable Justice Murray Sinclair
Chair, Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada
Sincerely,
