'To Whom It May Concern: Miss Marie Letaillenx, 0 'io:mosstenstsarchcom
Lam very pleased to provide reference for Miss Marie Letailleux, who undertook a 12-month industrial
placement between September 2004 and August 2005 within the European R&D Centre of National
Starch & Chemical. Miss Letailiewx worked under my supervision on a very demanding confidential
project, on the subject of industrial labelling adhesives. The successful conclusion of her project was
demonstrated by the development of a novel labelling adhesive formulation, which has been tested with
positive results by a customer. The launch of a new boitle labelling industrial adhesive, based om Miss
LLetailloux’s work, will follow in the near future
‘The nature of this project required good capability in the following areas, for all of which Miss
Letailleux reached and clemonstrated a high level of competence during the course of her placement
-A sound general chemistry background, specifically in the subject area of protein & polysucchatide
chemistry and biopolymer interactions, An ability to use the above knowledge for the successful
forraulation and improvement of water based bottle labelling adhesives,
“Setting up Response Surface ~ Experimental Designs for the investigation of raw material effects on
the overall adhesive performance and use of the “Design Expert” software package.
Widespread use and ability to set up methods of small and large deformation Rheological techniques,
several specialised adhesive tests (eg. Tack, Sct Speed, Condensation Water Resistance etc), as well as
the capacity to combine information from the above tests for the successful reformulation of adhesives.
“Scaling up successful formulations fom the laboratory into 100kg rotating jacket heated pilot plant
mixers. Extensive use of industrial scale adhesive applicators (Krones bottle iabelling stations) for the
assessment of the machining properties of scaled up formulations,
~The capacity to analyse and interpret complex experimental data, as well as solve technical problems
in the laboratory.
A high level of tenacity and perseverance, even when tasks or technical problems she had fo overcome
became comptex and challenging,
Good time management and organisational skills in order t ensure a successful project conclusion.
“Moceover, I was particularly impressed by Miss Lefalleux’s excellent communication and presentation
skills, as demonstrated during numerous meetings and project reviews wit our Marketing department
and Raw Material suppliers. Miss Letaileux is a hard working persoa, wino quickly adapted well within
the multicultural and English speaking R&D environment of National Starch & Chemical. She
achieved that through her excellent interpersonal skills and personal quits.
After having supervised Miss Letaitiewx for a yeat, T am confident that she will be very successful in
her remaining studies, as well as her fture career. Ihave no hesitation in strongly recommending her
for any relevant post within the Chemical Industry. All of us at the R&D of National Starch &
Chemical would like to thank her for her hard work and contribution and wish her every success for the
fare,
‘Yours faithfully

She completed the following tasks:
- Realisation of coating examinations
- Production of coatings
- Optimization of recepies
- Examination of corrosion-behaviour
- Treatment and examination of Sol-Gel layers
During her stay in our company, she worked together with our
Development Department and made a final report of her work.
We found Ms. Letaillieux to be a conscientious and intelligent student,
who showed high interest and enthusiasm in her work. Her personal
