The German Government has committed 10 million euro additional grants for flood-a
ffected areas in northern Myanmar.
German Ambassador Christian-Ludwig Weber-Lortsch said poverty alleviation in rur al areas is a priority in German-Myanmar relations. We dont push paper, we perform our promises: On the ground, with the government an d for the people, he said. The money will go to building bridges and roads to reconnect 32 flood-effected vi llages in Kalay District serving 50,000 people. The project is started already, thanks to the un-bureaucratic assistance of the Department of Rural Development, he said. The ambassador said the Myanmar government organized free and fair elections and is now enabling a peaceful and democratic transition of power. That de-serves re spect and support. The Myanmar government appointed the Ministry of Live Stock, Fisheries and Rural Development as project partner and executing agency.
