EXT. CURTIS HOUSE - NIGHT
A quiet house sits on a suburban street as Halloween comes to
an end. Jack-o-lanterns keep watch from every porch.
Everyone has turned in except for pranksters.
SUPER: OTTAWA HILLS, OHIO, OCTOBER 31ST, 2005... then
HALLOWEEN.
Four boys run up to the Curtis House with toilet paper and
eggs. One boy throws eggs at the house, another snatches the
jack-o-lantern from the porch, while the other two toilet
paper a tree and some bushes.
The boy with the jack-o-lantern tosses it in the air. SMASH!
The jack-o-lantern shatters into pieces and orange goo flies
everywhere.
The boys laugh and run away.
INT. CURTIS HOUSE - TWINS BEDROOM - NIGHT
YOUNG DANIELLE CURTIS (10), wakes from the noise outside. The
laughter fades away. As things get quiet again she hears loud
thuds and footsteps from her parents room.
Natalie.
YOUNG DANIELLE
YOUNG NATALIE CURTIS (10), Danielles twin, turns and buries

her head into her pillow as she sleeps in a bed next to
Danielles.
Danielle gets out of bed and creeps towards the door.
INT. CURTIS HOUSE - UPSTAIRS HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS
Danielle steps out into the dark hallway and looks down to
the other end where light seeps into the hall from her
parents room. She steps towards it.
Danielle gets to the room and stops dead in her tracks.
INT. CURTIS HOUSE - PARENTS BEDROOM - CONTINUOUS
JAMIE, early 30s, is tied to the bed, gagged and gutted.
Blood paints the walls as a happy clown stands over her body,
holding a knife in one hand and his mask in the other.

Its LESTER LOUIS, late 20s, devilishly handsome as much as
he is creepy. Hes covered in her blood. He smears it on his
face as he runs his hand down to his neck, in pure ecstacy
from his kill. He opens his eyes and spots Danielle.
Danielle runs into the room and slams the door behind her.
She locks it. Tears roll down her cheeks as she gasps for
air. She runs over to Natalie.
YOUNG DANIELLE
Wake up Nat! Hes coming.
YOUNG NATALIE
Huh? What are you-Lester bangs on the door. Natalie bolts out of bed fully
awake.
YOUNG NATALIE (CONTD)
Whos that?
The clown!
YOUNG DANIELLE
The knife pierces through the wooden door. Jamies blood

still drips from it. It retracts and comes back, again and
again.
The girls scream and hide in the closet.
Lester kicks the door down and rushes into the room, his mask
back on. He checks under the beds, nothing. He beelines for
the closet.
The girls back up and hold each other.
Lester punches through the closet door and smashes through.
He towers over the twins as they cry and scream. He brushes
Natalies face with the knife and caresses Danielles with
his other hand.
DANIELLE CURTIS (20), a beauty despite dark circles under her
eyes and messy hair, kicks and screams in her sleep. She
jumps up in her bed and breathes heavily.
SUPER: 10 YEARS LATER... then OCTOBER 30TH, 2015.

The room is the same one she had as a child, except the decor
is that of a teenage girl. The closet door is fixed and
everything seems safe and secure.
She looks over at NATALIE CURTIS (20), the same as Danielle
except a few scars cover her face instead of dark circles
under her eyes, as Natalie sits up, already awake.
DANIELLE
Did I wake you?
NATALIE
No. I had one too.
Which one?
DANIELLE
NATALIE
When I was in that box. Yours?
DANIELLE
I dont remember.
Natalie doesnt buy it.
DANIELLE (CONTD)
Can I sleep in your bed?
Natalie holds her arms out. Danielle goes over and lays in
her sisters arms. Natalie strokes Danielles hair. They
stare off into nothingness.
DANIELLE (CONTD)
I just want them to stop.
NATALIE
Me too Danni. Me too.
INT. AMELIAS OFFICE - DAY
Danielle lays on a couch across from AMELIA, 50s, a woman
wise beyond her years. Amelia jots down notes on a pad. She
stops and focuses on Danielle.
DANIELLE
And by the time I wake up I feel
like I cant even breath.
AMELIA
I can honestly say Im not
surprised. Halloween is a big
trigger point for you.

DANIELLE
I just want them to stop. Im
starting to think thats not
possible anymore.
AMELIA
Anythings possible.
Danielle sits up and faces Amelia.
DANIELLE
Am I crazy?
AMELIA
Of course not. Youre just a girl
whos been through hell and back.
If anything youre stronger than
you think. Would you mind if we had
a last minute group session with
Natalie today?
DANIELLE
Sure, I dont mind.
Perfect.
AMELIA
Amelia walks over to the door and peeks out into the hallway.
AMELIA (CONTD)
Natalie can you please come join
us?
Natalie walks in and sits next to Danielle. Amelia returns to
her chair. She takes her glasses off and folds them in her
lap.
AMELIA (CONTD)
I feel like the reason youre both
having these nightmares, is because
he lives in your mind. Hes locked
up physically but mentally, he will
always get to you.
Still?
NATALIE
AMELIA
Mental scars, unlike physical, take
a lot longer to heal.
DANIELLE
So what do we do? Wait around until
were fifty?

AMELIA
Well... theres a method Ive been
wanting to try with you girls for a
long time now.
DANIELLE
Weve tried everything.
AMELIA
Not everything. This may sound
crazy, but hear me out. I think
part of the reason these nightmares
wont go away is because you both
still fear him in some way. Maybe
seeing him locked up and finally
talking to him will bring you some
sort of closure.
DANIELLE
Youre right, that is crazy. No
freaking way. Absolutely not.
AMELIA
Think about it. But if you decide
to do it, I was able to arrange a
meeting for you today. Orange Grove
is only a two hour drive from here.
I highly recommend it for your
recovery.
INT. ERICS CAR - DAY
ERIC DOYLE (21), tall, mysterious, and handsome, drives
Natalie, with his brother CODY DOYLE (19), the innocent boy
next door, in the back seat next to Danielle.
NATALIE
Thanks for taking us babe. If my
dad knew hed flip.
ERIC
Dont mention it.
Danielle stares out of the window, pure dread on her face.
CODY
Are you okay?
She doesnt even acknowledge that hes there.
Danielle?
CODY (CONTD)

DANIELLE
Sorry. Did you say something?
Nah.
CODY
Eric holds Natalies hand.

ERIC
You sure you want to do this?
NATALIE
Positive. Its long over due.
EXT. ORANGE GROVE MENTAL HOSPITAL - GATES - DAY
Eric pulls up to Orange Grove Mental Hospital. It resembles a
grand mansion, only surrounded by fences like a prison.
A GUARD walks up to the car.
GUARD
What can I do for you?
Natalie leans over Eric.
NATALIE
Natalie and Danielle Curtis. Were
here for a visit.
GUARD
Alright. Just a second.
The Guard goes back to his post and hits a button. The gate
slowly opens and Eric pulls forward onto a long pathway that
stretches up to the hospital.
EXT. ORANGE GROVE MENTAL HOSPITAL - PARKING LOT - DAY
Eric parks his car and shuts the engine off.
INT. ERICS CAR - CONTINUOUS
Theres a long silent pause.
DANIELLE
I cant do it.
Natalie turns around to face her.

NATALIE
But we came all this way.
DANIELLE
I refuse to be in the same room
with him. Not after what he did.
NATALIE
Arent you tired of living like
this? Dont you want it to be over?
DANIELLE
Confronting him wont erase what
happened. It pointless.
NATALIE
Weve tried everything else. If you
want to stay handcuffed to the past
go ahead. But Im going. From this
day forward he has no control over
my life.
DANIELLE
So go. No ones stopping you.
Please.
NATALIE
DANIELLE
Theres not enough money in the
world.
CODY
I can wait with her while you two
go in.
Okay.
NATALIE
Eric and Natalie step out of the car and approach the doors
of Orange Grove.
INT. ORANGE GROVE MENTAL HOSPITAL - VISITING ROOM - DAY
Natalie sits at a table in the middle of the room. She faces
the wall. Across from her is an empty chair.
In comes Lester, late 30s, still looks the same but slightly
aged, chains on his hands and feet, accompanied by another
guard. He smiles and sits.
Danielle?
LESTER

Natalie turns around with a smug look on her face and
Lesters smile disappears.
NATALIE
Surprise bitch. I bet you thought
youd seen the last of me.
Natalie.
LESTER
NATALIE
What gave it away? The scars on my
face?
LESTER
Wheres Danielle? I only agreed to
do this because I thought shed be
here.
NATALIE
She doesnt want to see your face.
Liar.
LESTER
NATALIE
Youre still in love with her,
arent you?
LESTER
You know what they say about true
love.
NATALIE
God. You really are one sick
twisted fuck. She never loved you.
LESTER
You have no idea what we shared. So
tell me, whats this about?
NATALIE
I want to know why?
LESTER
Havent you heard? Im crazy.
NATALIE
Tell me god dammit. You owe me so
much but I can walk away with that.
LESTER
Because I felt like it. My turn.

Lester leans in closer to Natalie with a smug look on his
face too. Natalie sees this challenge and leans in closer.
NATALIE
I ask the questions.
LESTER
Do you ever wonder why I chose
Danielle and left you to rot in the
ground? I mean youre both the same
in every way. Almost.
Why?
NATALIE
LESTER
Your attitude. Its vile and offputting. I could tell back then.
And it still is.
NATALIE
Youre one to talk.
LESTER
Does it hurt? Knowing youre the
throw away twin?
NATALIE
Fuck you. I came to tell you that
you dont get to me anymore.
Oh?
LESTER
NATALIE
Im out living my life while youre
here rotting away like you deserve.
Youre gonna die in here.
LESTER
Good for you.
NATALIE
Im not scared of you. And the
biggest satisfaction, is knowing
that youll never see your son. You
piece of shit.
Lesters jaw drops and his eyes widen.
My what?
LESTER

NATALIE
Youve lost Lester. The little girl
you tried to get rid of gets to
live her life. And now you get to
sit here and wonder.
Natalie stands up and walks towards the door.
No wait.
LESTER
Lester jumps up and approaches Natalie. The guard holds him

down as Natalie rushes out of the door.
NATALIE
So long Lester.
Natalie laughs as the door closes.
INT. ERICS CAR - DAY
Cody and Danielle wait for the others to return. He tries his
best with small talk.
CODY
Why didnt you want to go in there?
DANIELLE
Like I said, nothings going to
change. She talked to him, big
deal. Tomorrow is going to be the
same. And the day after that will
be the same.
CODY
Maybe finally confronting him will
work. Like facing the monsters
under your bed or something. You
know?
DANIELLE
I used to think monsters werent
real. Until I met him. Theyre real
alright. And facing them wont make
them any less real.
CODY
But hes locked up for life isnt
he?

DANIELLE
And your point? The damage is done.
Its not like I think hes going to
break out over some stupid holiday.
What am I supposed to do though?
Just pretend nothing ever happened
to me?
CODY
No, but you cant let it ruin your
life forever. Eventually you gotta
move on. For you.
DANIELLE
I cant. I can still hear his
voice. Smell him. Feel him.
Danielle cries and Cody pulls her in.
CODY
Im so sorry. I didnt mean to
upset you.
DANIELLE
I just want it all to go away. But
I cant. Its all I think about.
CODY
Just see how your sister handles
this. Dont give up just yet.
DANIELLE
Shes always been stronger than me.
I was always the quiet reserved one
and she was always the fighter.
Eric and Natalie get back in the car. Cody and Danielles
conversation stops and they pull apart from each other.
DANIELLE (CONTD)
That was fast.
NATALIE
I said all I needed to say. From
this moment on, hes dead to me,
and I can finally be free.
DANIELLE
Must be nice.
Eric starts the car and pulls out of the parking lot.

INT. ORANGE GROVE MENTAL HOSPITAL - RECREATIONAL ROOM - DAY
Patients roam around a recreational room with staff
interacting and keeping a close eye on them. Theres plenty
of activities from cards, to tv and music, to arts and
crafts, anything to keep them occupied.
Lester is guided into the room and the doors close behind
him. He walks over to a table where GLEN ROSE, early 20s,
fidgety and bursting with energy, plays cards with two other
patients. Lester takes the fourth seat.
GLEN
No Jimmy youre doing it all wrong.
If you have the number I ask for
you dont say go-fish. You hand
it over.
Glen snatches a card out of JIMMYS, 40s, a child trapped in
an adults body, hand.
Go fish!
JIMMY
GLEN
Your turn.
(to Lester)
So did the misses pay a visit? Did
you guys, you know?
Glen makes a hole on one hand and a makes a finger go in and
out of it.
LESTER
She didnt come.
GLEN
Then youre doing it all wrong. You
see you have to rub-LESTER
She didnt visit me. I dont know
why. I treated her so good.
Chicks.
GLEN
LESTER
I found out some interesting news
though.
GLEN
Jimmy ask me if I have one of them
cards you got.

JIMMY
LESTER
You want to help me get out of
here? Tonight?
Glen drops his cards and grins ear to ear.
GLEN
I thought youd never ask.
Go fish!

INT. CURTIS HOUSE - DINNING ROOM - NIGHT

Natalie and Danielle sit down at the table with HEATHER
CURTIS, late 30s, a woman who resembles their dead mother
Jamie.
DERRICK CURTIS, early 40s, a man who looks like he takes shit
from no one, still wears his Sheriffs uniform at the head of
the table. DANIEL CURTIS (9), a handsome little boy whos
very quiet and reserved, pushes his food around on his plate.
HEATHER
Whats wrong Daniel? Youve barely
touched your food.
DANIEL
Im just not that hungry.
NATALIE
So... Ive been thinking, we should
totally celebrate Halloween
tomorrow.
What?
DANIELLE
HEATHER
I think thats a wonderful idea. We
could decorate, everyone could wear
a nice costume.
DERRICK
Absolutely not.
Derrick.
HEATHER

DERRICK
We dont celebrate Halloween in
this house. And we all know why.
NATALIE
Well Im going to dress up.
DERRICK
Like hell you are.
NATALIE
Im not a little girl anymore.
DERRICK
Think about your mother.
NATALIE
I do. And shed want us to live as
if she were here. Isnt that why
you married her sister?
Natalie gets up from the table while Derrick is at a loss for
words.
DANIEL
Ive never dressed up for
Halloween.
DERRICK
And theres good reason for that.
Dad.
DANIELLE
HEATHER
Shes right. I think itd do
everyone some good to start making
some good memories on Halloween
again.
DANIELLE
I dont do Halloween.
HEATHER
You could use some fun in your
life.
DANIELLE
Ive had my share of Halloween fun.
Danielle takes her plate and leaves to the kitchen.

INT. CURTIS HOUSE - BATHROOM - NIGHT
Danielle pulls the shower curtain back and steps out of the
shower into a steam filled room. She walks over to the mirror
and wipes away the steam until she sees herself. She runs her
hand over a cesarian scar.
INT. LESTERS HOUSE - DARK ROOM - NIGHT - DANIELLES DREAM
Lester opens the door into a room where young Danielle and
young Natalie hang from the ceiling by their hands, with
cloth tied around their mouths. Theyre both wearing their
princess costumes, while he wears the clown costume from
earlier.
He walks up to both of them.
LESTER
Ive never had two girls before.
Unfortunately, I dont think I can
handle the both of you. Im a one
girl kind of guy if you know what I
mean.
The girls scream as Lester approaches. He walks up to young
Danielle.
LESTER (CONTD)
You. Youre the one Ive been
waiting for. I can feel it. Youre
mine.
Lester grabs young Danielle and smells her. He shudders,
turned on by her scent. He looks at young Natalie.
LESTER (CONTD)
But with you, that means I still
get to have some fun.
Lester takes young Natalie down and drags her out of the
room. He slams the door and the room goes pitch black.
Danielle screams as she wakes up in a cold sweat from her
nightmare. She looks around the room and over at Natalie
whos sound asleep. Danielle lays her head down and cries in
silence.

EXT. CURTIS HOUSE - DAY
Leaves blow in the wind as kids run up and down the streets
in their costumes.
SUPER: OTTAWA HILLS, OHIO, OCTOBER 31ST, 2015... then
HALLOWEEN.
Every house is decorated, except the Curtis house.
INT. CURTIS HOUSE - KITCHEN - DAY
Heather scrambles around as she prepares breakfast for
everyone. She runs to the stove and flips bacon as it
sizzles. Then pours a cup of coffee.
Natalie walks in dressed in a waitress uniform. She walks
right past Heathers food.
HEATHER
Im making you breakfast.
NATALIE
I cant eat that. Im on a diet.
Natalie gets a bagel and creme cheese from the fridge and
stands at the counter as she prepares her meal.
Derrick walks in dressed in his Sheriff uniform.
DERRICK
Something smells good.
HEATHER
Sit down Ill make you a plate.
Derrick sits at the table with a cup of coffee as Heather
prepares a plate of food. She walks over to Derrick and sets
it down in front of him.
Danielle walks down into the kitchen dressed in the same
uniform as Natalie. She walks over and pours a cup of coffee.
HEATHER (CONTD)
Rough night?
DANIELLE
What gave it away?
HEATHER
Could you go make sure Daniels
getting ready?

Sure.
DANIELLE
Danielle takes a sip of coffee and sets her cup down. She
exits the kitchen.
INT. CURTIS HOUSE - DANIELS ROOM - DAY
Daniel watches all of the kids outside running to school in
their costumes. Danielle walks in.
DANIELLE
Hey, youre going to be late.
DANIEL
Do you love me Danni?
DANIELLE
Of course I do.
DANIEL
Like a brother? Like a real
brother?
DANIELLE
Look, were not really siblings
Daniel. But that doesnt mean I
love you any less. Wheres this
coming from?
DANIEL
Kids at school. They tease me about
being adopted.
DANIELLE
Dont let them get to you. It
doesnt matter how you got here.
All that matters is youre here,
with us.
Daniel hugs Danielle.
DANIELLE (CONTD)
Come on, breakfast is ready.
They both leave the room.
INT. CURTIS HOUSE - KITCHEN
Derrick eats his food and turns on a tv on the counter.
Heather and Natalie watch as well.

ON TV: A reporter stands in front of Orange Grove.
REPORTER
Again, for those of you just tuning
in, two patients escaped Orange
Grove last night. They killed one
guard and a nurse before escaping
through a hole in the fence. The
first, Lester Louis, also known as
the Ottawa Hills Slasher, killed
thirteen people, including seven
little girls, before being caught
and committed ten years ago. His
accomplice, Glen Rose, murdered his
family with a hack saw before
burning their house to the ground
at the age of seventeen. They are
both still at large.
Everyones jaw drops. Danielle and Daniel stand behind
everyone.
Shit.
NATALIE
DANIELLE
I told you going to see him was a
bad idea.
DERRICK
You did what?
NATALIE
Amelia set it up.
DERRICK
How could you be so stupid?
Natalie and Danielle stay quiet.
DERRICK (CONTD)
I have to go to the station. Nobody
leaves this house. Got it?
They all shake their heads. Some more reluctant than others.
Derrick gets up and walks out the back door.
NATALIE
Thanks Danni.
DANIELLE
It was. He got out because we went
to visit him. Now hes coming back
for us.

NATALIE
We dont know that.
Natalie gathers her things and heads for the door.
HEATHER
Where are you going? Your dad said
to stay here.
NATALIE
Im not staying locked up in this
house another second. Im twenty
years old and I have a life.
Natalie slams the door on her way out.
HEATHER
I guess shes right. You cant miss
school Daniel.
DANIELLE
Are you blind to whats going on?
Hes free. And you want to go about
your day like everythings normal?
HEATHER
How long are you going to live in
the past Danni?
DANIELLE
Fuck the past. Hes out there right
now. Its not safe.
HEATHER
Hes safer in school than he is
here. Plus your dad is going to
find him. You have nothing to worry
about.
DANIELLE
Its easy for you to say. You
werent there.
HEATHER
I lost my sister.
DANIELLE
And married her husband. How sad is
that?
Danielle storms outside after Natalie.

EXT. CURTIS HOUSE - CONTINUOUS
Danielle rushes after Natalie to the front yard.
DANIELLE
Where are you going?
To work.
NATALIE
DANIELLE
Arent you coming to therapy?
No.
NATALIE
Natalie stops.
NATALIE (CONTD)
Im done with all of that. Move on
already.
DANIELLE
So now that you saw him
everythings okay?
NATALIE
Look Danni, Im not spending
another moment of my life
reminiscing about the past. If you
want to, thats your problem.
Natalie walks away from the house. Danielle follows.
DANIELLE
What if he comes for us?
NATALIE
Then it doesnt matter where we
are. Im not spending another
Halloween locked up in that house.
I suggest you do the same.
DANIELLE
Its not safe just walking around.
NATALIE
Was it safe in there ten years ago?
No.
DANIELLE
NATALIE
Tell Amelia I said hi.
21.
Danielle stops as Natalie walks towards work.
INT. AMELIAS OFFICE - DAY
Amelia gathers her purse and cell phone and heads for the
door. Danielle steps in.
DANIELLE
Where are you going? I thought we
had a session today?
Amelia doesnt stop.
AMELIA
(calling to the other
room)
Dammit Rebecca I said no patients
today.
Danielle stands in front of Amelias path.
AMELIA (CONTD)
Danielle move.
DANIELLE
No. Not until you tell me whats
going on.
AMELIA
Its not safe to be around you. Not
today. Im terribly sorry for this
but Im leaving town.
Why?
DANIELLE
AMELIA
Im your therapist. Who knows what
that maniac has planned. Im not
waiting around to find out. I
suggest you skip town too.
DANIELLE
This is all your fault. And now
youre leaving? I looked up to you.
I trusted you. You dont really
care about me. All you care about
is your one-hundred bucks an hour.
AMELIA
Im sorry. Now move.
Amelia pushes Danielle out of the way.

INT. POLICE STATION - DAY

Derrick walks in and heads for his office through a stream of
chaos. OFFICER RICHARD LOOMIS runs up by his side.
LOOMIS
Have you heard the news? Everyone
in town has been going crazy all
morning.
I have.
DERRICK
Derrick stops to address the station.

DERRICK (CONTD)
Alright everyone listen up. Were
going to use all our efforts to
catch this bastard before he does
anymore damage. I want every patrol
on the streets.
The station applauds their sheriff and gets to work.
DERRICK (CONTD)
Has anyone been to his house?
LOOMIS
We have men searching the perimeter
as we speak.
DERRICK
Good work Loomis. I want you to be
my eyes and ears today.
Yes sir.
LOOMIS
DISPATCHER YOLANDA SANCHEZ runs up to the men.

SANCHEZ
Sheriff, they need you down at the
cemetery.
INT. RIDDLES DRUG STORE - DAY
Cody sweeps up glass near the entrance of the store. Police
tape keeps customers from entering. He pushes the glass into
a dustpan and takes it over to a trash can.

Eric jumps up from behind the counter and scares Cody.
Boo!
ERIC
CODY
Dammit Eric.
ERIC
Haha! Thats two today.
CODY
Ill get you back.
ERIC
Sure, sure. Mr. Riddle said he
wants you to clean up the costume
section when youre done up here.
CODY
And what are you going to do?
ERIC
Make sure you get it done. The
perks of being your manager little
brother.
CODY
Im surprised they let you manage
anything when you cant even wipe
your own ass correctly.
ERIC
Nice comeback. Im doing inventory
too.
CODY
We all know how that turned out
last time.
ERIC
Hey, he never noticed the cases of
beer missing. And he wont tonight.
And you better not snitch.
CODY
My lips are sealed, if..

ERIC
CODY
You can get me a date with
Danielle.

Give it up. Shes not interested
and I could find you so many other
girls.
CODY

ERIC

INT. DINER - DAY
Natalie holds a tray with plates of food on it. She moves
effortlessly to a booth where a MAN and a woman sit.
NATALIE
Is there anything else I can get
you today?
MAN
No thank you.
They whisper and look at Natalie as she walks away. Danielle
strolls in and heads for the back past Natalie.
NATALIE
Im surprised you showed up.
DANIELLE
Im safer here than at home right?
Danielle walks past her boss, ROBERT, 50s, a pleasantly plump
asshole.

ROBERT
Are you good enough to work today?
Im fine.
DANIELLE
ROBERT
Great. Why dont you take that
trash out for me before you get to
your tables.

Danielle drags a trash bag over to the dumpster and struggles
to lift it up. She manages to get it inside and drops it.
Natalie walks up beside her and lites up two cigarettes. She
hands one to Danielle.

back into the Diner.

Eric and Cody sit down at one of Danielles booths and she
comes over to take their order.

Danielle walks away towards the kitchen. Eric kicks Cody.

Cody throws sugar packets at his brother.
Danielle eyes the register and makes sure no one else
watches. She walks past it and opens it up. She takes out all
of the large bills and closes the register. No one saw her.
Without so much as a word she rushes out the back door.
EXT. CEMETERY - DAY
A Sheriffs car pulls up to the cemetery. Two more squad cars
are parked out front and police tape blocks anyone from
entering.
Derrick and Loomis step out of the car and up to the gate.
OFFICER DEVON MOORE, 30s, walks up to them.

What happened here?

A grave robbing sir.
Derrick grabs Moore.

Moore walks with Derrick and Loomis up to OFFICER KEVIN
TAYLOR, 20s, who stands with BUCKEY, 60s, the man who runs
the cemetery.

The men gather around a hollow, empty grave.

Danielle walks up to the ticket counter. The CLERK has a
fake, forced smile.

I need a one-way ticket to
Russelville please.
CLERK
That will be fifty dollars.
Danielle pulls out the crumpled up cash she stole earlier and
counts out $50 as the Clerk looks at her with judging eyes.
Danielle hands over the money.

The clerk counts the money and prints Danielles ticket.

The bus leaves at-Danielle takes it and rushes off.

INT. DINER - DAY
Eric and Cody sit patiently without their food.

Natalie walks over to the table.

Danielle sits in her seat on the bus to Russelville. She
stares out of the window as other passengers board. Natalie
rushes past everyone and runs to Danielle.

What are you doing here?
NATALIE
I could ask you the same thing. Are
you crazy?
DANIELLE
If staying safe makes me crazy,
then yes.
NATALIE
So what are you going to do? Just
leave us all here worried sick

INT. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - DAY
The release bell rings and children run into the halls
wearing costumes. Daniel steps out of class, the only kid not
wearing a costume. MICHAEL, FRED, and JASON follow him.

everyone stops and watches him tumble to the bottom. Daniel
runs outside as Fred crawls to his feet with a bloody lip.
EXT. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - CONTINUOUS
Daniel runs past all of the kids in their costumes and stops
at a tree. He cries and bangs on the tree. A hand touches him
and he jumps. Its Heather.

Daniel, whats wrong?

Last minute shoppers scramble around the store trying to get

through a rack of costumes. She pulls one out.

a pirate costume and picks it up. Behind him, a man towers
over him. Its Lester, in a much scarier costume than before.
Daniel looks in excitement, much to Lesters surprise.

I want to be a clown too.
Lester picks up a clown costume from behind Daniel and hands
it to him. Daniel drops the pirate one and stares at this one
in awe. He turns to call out to Heather.

I found the perfect costume.

Daniel turns around but Lester is gone. Heather comes up to
him.
HEATHER
What did you find.
Daniel hands it to her. She tries to hide the horror and
covers her mouth.
DANIEL
Isnt it cool?
HEATHER

HEATHER
You know this is going to scare the

EXT. COSTUME SHOP - CONTINUOUS
As they walk out Danielle puts the receipt in the bag and
bumps into Lester. She drops everything. Natalie and Cody
stop. Lester picks it up for her and Danielle looks on in
terror at the clown.
NATALIE

Natalie takes Danielle to Erics car as it waits for them in
the street. Cody follows.
Behind Lester, Glen, dressed in a similar but slightly
different costume, carries two adult princess costumes.

EXT. CURTIS HOUSE - DAY
A security truck sits out front as Derrick and the driver
talk. Every window from top to bottom is covered by bars.
Heathers car pulls up to the house followed by Erics.
Heather and Daniel step out of her car but leave the bags and
she approaches Derrick.
HEATHER
What is all of this?
DERRICK
Just a safety precaution. No one is
getting in this house tonight. I
thought I told you all to stay put.
HEATHER
For what? See we made it back here
in one piece.
Heather laughs.
DERRICK
Im serious. Someone dug up a
coffin today. They placed the body
on top of Jamies head stone.

Everyone puts the finishing touches on the Curtis house. Eric
and Cody hang a skeleton from the tree in front. Natalie and
Danielle stage various Halloween props in the yard, Daniel
covers the place in fake cobwebs, and Heather carves a jacko-lantern on the porch.
Danielle finishes and goes to walk inside.

Danielle stops.

Cody sits in the living room in his Raphael costume. Danielle
storms down the stairs and into the kitchen.

walks in to see what all the commotion is about.

Cody and Danielle take off into the night. Heather runs down
the opposite end of the street.
Lester and Glen follow Heather.
INT. ALLEY - NIGHT
A group of kids run into an alley that leads into the woods.
Heather follows them and snatches of the same mask Daniel
had. Its not him.

HEATHER
The kid takes his mask back and they all run back to the
street. Heather goes to follow them and is cut off by Lester
and Glen.

They get closer to her and wont let her past them.

Lester grabs Heathers mouth and Glen takes her feet. They
carry her into the woods.
EXT. WOODS - CONTINUOUS
Heather struggles to get free from her captors and manages to
get one of her feet loose. She kicks Glen in the face and
head-butts Lester. They drop her and she runs.
Help me!
HEATHER
They get up to chase her. Glen stops Lester and raises his
mask.
Let me.
GLEN
Lester nods in approval. Glen takes off like a race horse.

Heather runs through the woods, she cuts herself on bushes
and twigs, ripping her costume and covering it more and more
in dirt. She gets to a hill and falls.
Heather tumbles down the hill and smacks into a tree. She
crawls to her feet. Glen tackles her and sits on top of her.
She tries to fight him off and he punches her.
He pulls out a knife and brings it down. Heather catches it.
They struggle. Glen punches her again, and stabs her in the
chest. She screams. Crimson red covers the blade.
Glen drives it down into her chest once more. And again, and
again, and again, until Heather no longer fights back and
gargles on her own blood.
Glen howls at the moon like a wolf.
EXT. PARK - NIGHT
Danielle looks in every direction. Cody is not far behind
her.

The car smashes through a fence and right into a transformer.
Sparks fly everywhere as the car and Heather are
electrocuted. BANG! The car explodes and the towns power
goes out. Nothing but pitch black remains.

People cram a house dancing to music and drinking, having
fun, enjoying each others company.
Eric and Natalie dance on each other. The power goes out and

Glen reaches back up Natalies dress and the others watch.
Glen removes his pants and climbs on top of Natalie. She
screams under the gag but gives in and stays silent.
Danielle cries for her sister. Lester smiles ear to ear.

LESTER
All of this is making turning me

Lester rubs Danielles shoulder.
Lesters house is destroyed and burns to the ground. The
firefighters just watch.
INT. CURTIS HOUSE - BASEMENT - NIGHT
Danielle looks lifeless as Lester grinds on top of her. Glen
is finished with Natalie and he holds her. Daniel is bound
and gagged again.
LESTER
I missed you.
Lester finishes and Danielle throws up. Lester gets dressed.
LESTER (CONTD)
Dont be so dramatic. Its time
Glen.
Already?
GLEN
Danielle notices Lester hasnt picked up the gun yet. She

takes it.
LESTER
We have to get out of town before
the dad gets back. We can take the
boyfriends car.
GLEN
What about the surprise?
Oh yeah.
LESTER
Lester walks over to a big object underneath a sheet.

GLEN
Youre gonna love this.
Danielle rushes over to Natalie and removes her gag and
unties her.

Lester removes the sheet to reveal... the coffin they dug up
earlier. Still covered in dirt.
Natalie and Danielle hold each other tight.
LESTER
Danielle, Im taking the boy. You
have a choice, either come with us,
or get in the coffin.
DANIELLE
Id rather rot in the ground than
go anywhere with you.
LESTER
If you wish. Her first.
Glen grabs Natalie and drags her to the coffin.
GLEN
Back in the box.
Natalie kicks and screams. Shes terrified of the coffin. She
accidently knocks over a few candles and they catch the sheet
on fire. The flames find their way to various junk items.
NATALIE
No! Please!
DANIELLE
Stop! Ill go with you. Just please
dont make her go in there.
LESTER
Im sorry, but thats the way it
has to be.
Glen continues to bring Natalie to the coffin. Danielle pulls
the gun out and aims it at Glen.
Everyone stops dead in their tracks.
LESTER (CONTD)
Dont do anything stupid. You dont
even know how to us those things.
DANIELLE
Let her go.
Glen releases Natalie. She runs over to Danielle.
Untie him.
DANIELLE (CONTD)

Natalie unties Daniel.
DANIELLE (CONTD)
Give me one good reason why I
shouldnt put one right between

GLEN
Because the safetys on.
Glen pulls out his gun and aims it at Danielle. She tries to
pull the trigger but it wont work. The safety is on. Glen
fires at Danielle.
No!
NATALIE
Natalie jumps in front of the bullet and falls on top of

Danielle.
Lester gets angry and rushes to Glen, who looks like a kids
whos in trouble with their parents.
LESTER
We werent supposed to kill her.
Lester takes his knife and stabs Glen in the gut. Glen slides
to the floor.
Danielle holds Natalie whos been shot in the chest.
DANIELLE
Why would you do that?
NATALIE
I know youd do the same for me.
Now hurry. Run.
DANIELLE
Im so sorry for everything I said.
I love you.
Natalie touches Danielles cheek. All is forgiven. Natalie
coughs on her blood and bleeds out in Danielles arms.
Lester stands over Glen.
GLEN
Im sorry. I just wanted to be like
you.

LESTER
You idiot. I used you. I just
needed someone to cause the
distractions. You could never be
like me.
As the flames grow bigger and stronger, Danielle and Daniel
run upstairs.
INT. CURTIS HOUSE - KITCHEN - CONTINUOUS
Danielle locks the basement door and runs to the back door.
The door knob is gone.
Shit.
DANIELLE
DANIEL
Hes coming.
Lester bangs on the door.
INT. CURTIS HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - CONTINUOUS
Danielle and Daniel run into the living room. She checks the
front door again but no luck.
DANIELLE
Were trapped in the house.
Danielle looks around. Shes out of options. She spots a way
out.
DANIELLE (CONTD)
The chimney.
Danielle and Daniel run to the chimney.
DANIELLE (CONTD)
Daniel I want you to climb up the
chimney.
I cant.
DANIEL
DANIELLE
Well try dammit. Place your back up
against one end and use your hand
and feet to move up.
Danielle pushes Daniel inside the

CHIMNEY
Daniel uses his hands and feet like Danielle instructed. Once
hes high enough she does the same behind him.
As the flames grow, more and more smoke fills the chimney.
Its a black and thick smoke that starts to cover them. They
cough.
Daniel gets halfway to the roof when he slips. Danielle
catches him and he positions himself the right way. They
continue to climb.
Lester comes up behind them and begins his climb.
DANIEL
Hes coming.
DANIELLE
Keep going baby. Were almost
there.
Lester catches up to Danielle and grabs her foot. She slips
but catches herself.
DANIELLE (CONTD)
Go Daniel. Hurry.
Daniel sees whats going on behind him and finds a loose
brick in the chimney wall. He takes the brick out.
Look out.
DANIEL
Daniel drops the brick and it goes past Danielle and crashes
onto Lesters head. He falls to the bottom of the chimney.
EXT. CURTIS HOUSE - ROOFTOP - CONTINUOUS
From the top of the chimney, Daniels little hands poke out
and cling to the sides. He lifts himself up. Danielle is
right behind him.
She climbs out of the chimney and onto the rooftop. She helps
Daniel down.
DANIELLE
Get on my back.
Daniel climbs on her back and she gets low. She crawls
towards the other side of the roof. The house is engulfed in
flames. They start poking through the rooftop.

Danielle slips and her and Daniel slide down the roof. She
catches them before they go over the edge. She crawls back
towards the top of the roof.
Lester climbs out of the chimney. He stands on the roof.
DANIEL
Hes up here.
Danielle panics and slides down to the other end of the roof.
She pulls a cable cord. She begins to tie it around Daniel.
DANIELLE
Im going to lower you down.
Danni?
DANIEL
DANIELLE
Ive got you. When you get down you
run and dont stop.
Lester carefully steps closer and closer. Danielle lowers
Daniel over the edge of the roof and lets go. The cord tugs
around Daniel. Danielle lowers him down as fast as she can.
Inch by inch. Lesters footsteps get closer and closer.
Daniel gets a little below the second story. Lester grabs
Danielle by the hair. She lets the cord go. Daniel plummets
towards the ground.
The cord snags just as hes mere feet from the ground. He
dangles, unable to get free. He sways to and from the house
inches away from the flames.
The fire starts to burn the cable. It snaps and sends Daniel
to the ground.
Lester throws Danielle off the roof. THUD! She smacks the
cold ground. Unconscious.
The Curtis house is now a ball of flames. Daniel runs over to
Danielle. He shakes her.
DANIEL
Please wake up. You cant be dead.
Lester limps from around the corner. He jumped from the roof.
Daniel stands up and runs.

Help me!
DANIEL (CONTD)
Lester follows.
Danielle lays unconscious next to the burning house.
CODY (V.O.)
Maybe killing him is the only way.
But what happens if I cant do it?
DANIELLE (V.O.)
Then were screwed.
CODY (V.O.)
Danielle, you have to come to terms
with the fact that if I cant save
you, youre going to have to do it
yourself.
She rolls over and wakes up.
Danielle stands, bruised, bloody, and covered in smoke. She
follows Daniels cries for help.
EXT. SUBURBAN STREET - NIGHT
Daniel walks around and nobody is visible. Derricks squad
car races around the corner and almost hits Daniel. Derrick
stops and approaches Daniel.
DANIEL
Everyones dead.
What?
DERRICK
Derrick grabs Daniel.

DERRICK (CONTD)
This is all your fault. You
should've never been born.
Derrick throws Daniel into his car as Danielle races towards
them.
Dad!
DANIELLE
Danielle runs into Derricks arms and cries. He holds her.

DANIELLE (CONTD)
Where are you taking him?
DERRICK
Im gonna make use of that hole

Derrick pushes Danielle and gets into his car.

EXT. CEMETERY - NIGHT

Derricks car crashes through the old gates. It gets banged up
bad in the process. Derrick pull Daniel out of the wreckage
and gets a shovel out of his truck.
He takes Daniel to the hole in the ground where Lester stole
the coffin.
He pushes Daniel in side.
DANIEL
Please. Let me out of here.
Derrick pulls out his gun and points it at the boy.
DERRICK
Lay down and shut up.
Daniel drops to the ground and tries his best to silence his
cries.
Derrick takes the shovel and scoops up a pile of dirt. He
tosses it on top of Daniel.
DERRICK (CONTD)
It was a mistake letting her have
you. And allowing you to be apart
of this family.
Derrick tosses more dirt. It smacks Daniel in the face. The
boy panics and stands. Derrick shoots into the ground. BANG!
DERRICK (CONTD)
Lay down. Or Ill shoot you and
bury you dead.
Daniel looks into Derricks eye and sees nothing but pure
hatred. Daniel gives the same as he lays down.

DERRICK (CONTD)
This will all be over quick. Youll
die sooner if you arent in a
coffin.
Derrick tosses more and more dirt on top of Danielle. Lester
runs up behind Derrick and tackles him. They stand to their
feet. Derrick punches Lester. Lester punches him.
DERRICK (CONTD)
You son of a bitch.
Derrick charges at Lester and grabs him. He brings him in the
air and down to the ground. Lester pulls out a knife and
stabs Derrick. Lester twists the knife and pulls it out. He
stabs Derrick again, in the chest.
Derrick tries to crawl away. Lester stabs him again. And
again.
Danielle pulls up to the gates in Loomis squad car. She gets
out and runs inside to the fight. She pulls out a gun and
aims it at Lester. He freezes.
LESTER
Didnt we try this earlier.
Danielle shoots to the left of Lester. The safetys not on.
LESTER (CONTD)
Do you know what he was going to do
to our son?
DANIELLE
I dont care. Move it.
Lester backs away from Derrick. Danielle runs over to his
side.
DANIELLE (CONTD)
Why did you do it? Hes just a
child.
DERRICK
You wouldve thanked me someday.
That boy is going to turn out just
like him.
DANIELLE
Youre wrong.
DERRICK
Youll see. Take me to your
mothers grave.

Danielle helps Derrick over to Jamies grave. She places her
father down and kisses him on the head.
DERRICK (CONTD)
Im sorry I failed you again.
DANIELLE
I love you.
Derrick holds Danielles hand and dies.
Lester grabs Danielle and pulls her away. They struggle for
the gun. It goes through the air and into the hollow grave
with Daniel.
Lester holds his knife and Danielle freezes.
LESTER
It doesnt have to end this way. I
want you to come with me.
DANIELLE
In your dreams.
LESTER
After everything I did for you?
DANIELLE
What? Kept me locked down in a
basement? Raped me? Buried my
sister alive? Killed my mother?
LESTER
She wasnt so innocent.
DANIELLE
What are you talking about?
LESTER
Dont you want to know why I chose
your house? Of all the other houses
I couldve went to that night,
yours was special.

DANIELLE
LESTER
Your mother, was unhappy with her
marriage. Your father spent too
much time at work and she was
feeling neglected. Then she met me.
Danielles eyes go wide.

Thats right. Your mother and me
were having an affair. I had no
idea she was married with kids. And
she had no idea I was the Ottawa

DANIELLE
Lies. She never wouldve touched

LESTER

DANIELLE
Then why did you kill her?
LESTER
She began to feel guilty and called
off the affair. So I went to go
kill her.

LESTER
Bingo. I always loved Halloween
growing up. Thats why I made it my
night. And my favorite costume, was
a clown.
INT. CURTIS HOUSE - TWINS BEDROOM - NIGHT - FLASHBACK
Young Danielle looks outside her window down at Lester in his
happy clown costume.
SUPER: HALLOWEEN 2005.
Young Natalie is in bed as Jamie walks in. Jamie tucks her in
and kisses her on the head.
JAMIE
Sleep tight. Dont let the bed bugs
bite.
Young Natalie smiles.

JAMIE (CONTD)
Danni get away from that window and
get in bed.
Young Danielle looks to her mother.
YOUNG DANIELLE
Theres a clown outside.
JAMIE
Its Halloween Danni, everyones
outside wearing a costume. Now come
to bed.
Young Danielle turns back to face outside and the clown is
gone. She gets into her bed and Jamie tucks her in.
JAMIE (CONTD)
Sleep tight. Ill make you two some
french toast in the morning.
Okay.
YOUNG DANIELLE
Young Danielle grins ear to ear.

Jamie turns off the light and leaves the room.
EXT. CEMETERY - NIGHT - BACK TO PRESENT DAY
Lester steps closer to Danielle, the knife still in hand.
LESTER
I had no idea she had kids until I
saw you. And the moment I laid eyes
on you, I knew you were special. So
I killed your mother and took you.
Lester stands next to Danielle and wraps one arm around her.
LESTER (CONTD)
You made me happier than Ive ever
been. I didnt know what true love
was until I met you. Dont break my
heart like your mother. Im willing
to look past everything you did to
me. Lets take Daniel, and start
over.
DANIELLE
Id rather burn in hell.

Danielle smacks the knife out of Lesters hand and runs for
it. Lester jumps on top of her and pulls her back before she
can grab it.
Lester takes the knife and holds Danielle to the ground. He
lifts the knife into the air.
LESTER
Happy Halloween.
BANG! Lester falls over and drops the knife. Daniel stands in
shock out of the grave with the gun in his hand. He drops it
and runs over to Daniel.
Mommy.
Oh baby.
DANIEL
DANIELLE
Danielle holds Daniel as Lester jumps up. He punches Daniel

in the face and climbs on top of Danielle. He wraps his hands
around her neck and squeezes.
LESTER
You little bitch. You turned him
against me.
No!
DANIEL
Daniel picks up the knife and stabs Lester in the side. He

takes one hand off of Danielle and grabs the boy by the hair.
Danielle pulls the knife from his flesh and drives it into
his chest. Lester releases both of them and falls over.
Danielle climbs on top of him.
DANIELLE
You dont scare me anymore clown.
And with you dead, I can finally be
free.
Danielle pulls the knife out of Lester and brings it down
into his face. She pulls it up and brings it down again, and
again, and again, and again.
She cries and breaths. Shes free.
Danielle gets off of Lester. Daniel runs over and hugs her.
Danielle walks over to Jamies grave. She stares at it, and
sees her mother in a new light.

DANIELLE (CONTD)
I forgive you.
Danielle turns and holds Daniels hand.
Lets go.
DANIELLE (CONTD)
They walk out of the cemetery.

INT. COSTUME SHOP - DAY
Danielle looks through costumes. Shes clean, and well put
together.
SUPER: OCTOBER 31ST... then ONE YEAR LATER.
She picks out a pirate costume and holds it up. She smiles.
She walks towards the front and bumps into Amelia.
AMELIA
Danielle. What a pleasant surprise.
Is it?
DANIELLE
AMELIA
Look, I never got a chance to tell
you how sorry I am about everything
last year.
DANIELLE
Save it. Im not going to clear
your guilty conscience.
AMELIA
How have you been?
DANIELLE
Ive been good.
AMELIA
Thats good to hear. I thought last
Halloween wouldve brought you
back.
DANIELLE
Well you think wrong about a lot of
things. I cant go back, I have a
child to take care of now.
AMELIA
Oh yes, Daniel. Where is he?

DANIELLE
With a babysitter. Im just leaving
work.
AMELIA
Last minute shopping?
DANIELLE
No, we already had our costumes but
he ripped his, so Im buying him a
new one. Now if you dont mind,
this conversation has gone on to
long. Im leaving everything bad in
the past, and that includes you, so
if youll excuse me.
Danielle walks away from Amelia, who stands there
dumbfounded.
INT. APARTMENT BUILDING HALLWAY - DAY
Danielle walks upstairs and looks through her purse for her
keys. A group of kids run downstairs in their costumes and
almost knock her over.
She looks up and a kid dressed as a clown stands in front of
her. She smiles at him and he runs around her with the other
kids.
She reaches the top of the stairs and pulls out her keys. She
unlocks her door and steps in.
INT. DANIELLES APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM - CONTINUOUS
Danielle closes her door and sets everything down by the
door. She picks up a pile of mail and sorts through it.
DANIELLE
Im home. Daniel come get your
costume. Its almost time for trickor-treating.
Theres no answer. Danielle looks up and drops her mail. The
living room is a mess, things thrown around and a massive
blood stain on the couch and floor.
From the couch a trail of blood leads to the bedrooms.
Danielle creeps along with it.
Daniel?
DANIELLE (CONTD)

Danielle steps into the
HALLWAY
She follows the blood to Daniels room.
INT. DANIELLES APARTMENT - DANIELS ROOM - CONTINUOUS
Danielle opens the door slowly. It creaks. Danielle screams.
The trail of blood leads to the babysitters body,
decapitated and stabbed countless times. Daniel stands over
her body. He wears a clown costume and holds the bloody knife
in his hands.
Behind him is the head of the babysitter on his desk, carved
like a jack-o-lantern.
DANIEL
Happy Halloween mommy.
Noooooo!
DANIELLE
