Proficiency Information and Guidelines
Realizing that all home school education is directly under the supervision
and responsibility of the parents, these guidelines are provided for you
and your student to make the best decision in placement for examination.
The following categories are open for all students. Keep in mind that the grading was created

A. Schedule
Each event is allotted a 15 minute segment. Participants should report to the registration table 30 minutes prior to their scheduled
performance time. Please make every effort to observe the reserved times.
B. Medals
1. When you receive your rating you may retrieve your comment sheets and medals in the office (room 113). Allow 30 minutes for
processing. Please be patient with our Student Teachers,
2. Medals are also available forthe Proficiency Examination section. Students who reccive a score of 21-27 are entitled to a red
profieieney medal, and those whose score is 28-35 are entitled to a blue proficiency medal
C. Performances:
1. Itis recommended that each soloist, ensemble and chamber ensemble event provide the adjudicator an original score with each
‘measure numbered
2. Solos need not be memorized
3. The Solo and Ensemble representative will check each adjudication sheet for correct correlation between final rating and letter grades
cor numbers before the rating is released. Any sheet marked incorrectly willbe retumed to the adjudicator and corrected immediately.
Once a rating is posted and the sheet released, the rating is final and cannot be changed.

1, Seales: (Note: these appear in an additional document)
The student wil be prepared to play the seales listed for his/her instrument in the rhythm and tempo indicated. Seales will be
‘memorized. Articulations for winds will be all slurred or all tongued, as directed by the judge. Strings use bowings on String
Proficieney page. Melody percussion only roll the last note.
2, Piano Invention or Fugue: (Piano Solo events only)
The piano invention or fugue does not have to be memorized. The adjudicator's copy of the Bach Selection will be provided. Piano
entries play the seale and arpengio as a unit and are rated on them as one item.
3. Prepared Solo
The student may prepare a solo of any length, the guideline is not less than one minute for Jt. or not less than two minutes for Sr.
