Myanmars football history began in 1947 when the national team appointed several f

oreign head coaches. Over the years, some foreign coaches brought success and so
me were sacked after less than five games.
Since then, the history of football at the national level has seen many foreign
coaches come and go.
Myanmar was once a regional powerhouse in football.
It finished second in the 1968 Asian Cup and participated in the Summer Olympics
in 1972.
The team was dominant in Southeast Asia in the 1960s and 1970s, winning the Asia
n Games twice in 1966 and 1970, and the football event of the Southeast Asian Ga
mes on five successive occasions: in 1965, 1967, 1969, 1971 and 1973.
Since then, Myanmars highest achievement is the silver medal in 1993. Myanmar pla
yed its first World Cup qualifiers in 2007.
