United Nations
Briefing
World Health Organization announcement
The World Health
Organization announced
on Tuesday that Guinea is
free of the Ebola virus
transmission since its first
outbreak in March 2014.
This disease killed over
2,500 people in the West
African state, and a
furthering 9,000 in
neighboring states also.
While the WHOs
declaration of an Ebolafree Guinea is more than
welcome, it certainly
doesnt mean the country
can let down its guard
just yet. The virus then
spread to neighboring
Liberia and Sierra Leone
and, in isolated or
sporadic cases, to
another seven countries.
In fact, Guinea now
enters a three-month
period of heightened
surveillance to make sure
any new cases are quickly
identified and treated
immediately before
spreading to other
patients.
