No one in the party except Aung San Suu Kyi is allowed to answer questions or talk

about National League for Democracy policies during the transition period.
This is the directive issued on January 22 by the office of the NLD, a copy of w
hich was obtained by Mizzima.
NLD party chairperson Suu Kyi appears to be intent on keeping her party, which w
on the November elections, on message during the transition period through to when
it takes over from President Thein Seins ruling Union Solidarity and Development
Party at the end of February.
According to the directive, only Suu Kyi is allowed to talk to the media about N
LD policies and plans.
Myanmars current military-written 2008 Constitution contains a lengthy and cumbers
ome transition period of close to four months to allow a transfer of power.
Over two and a half months after the NLD won a landslide in the November 8 elect
ions, the party has yet to take up power.
