Application Guidelines for
Active Leaders Development Program Focusing on ASEAN-Japan Literacy
Honor Students
As a part of Active Leaders Development Program Focusing on ASEAN-Japan Literacy (See Attachment 1),
Meiji University Japanese Language Education Center will offer a special grant for the students of the member
universities of a consortium to participate in our Japanese Language Program. Course Fee will be discounted
for the Honor Students.
(1) Program: Meiji University Japanese Language Program Summer 2016
- Period: July 18 (Mon.), - August 4 (Thu.), 2016

(NOTE: The Course Fee published on the website is NOT discounted.)
(2) Number of Honor Students: 22 students (Maximum)
(3) Eligibility: Students who have very basic knowledge of Japanese.
- can read and write Hiragana and Katakana.
- can understand and use basic Japanese, such as greetings.
(JLPT N5 level / Beginners level or higher)
(4) Course Fee: JPY 20,000
*Course Fee includes: Tuition, Field Study/activity, Educational materials, and Accommodation
(*Homestay: Breakfast and Dinner are included).
*Course Fee does NOT include: Airfare, Domestic travel expenses, Insurance, Meals (Lunch), and Other
living expenses
(5) Application Procedure: Please apply for the Japanese Language Program Summer 2016 from the
Website below as usual.

(We will select the Honor Students from the students of ASEAN consortium universities who chose

Course B.)
(6) Application Period: February 1 - March 3, 2016
(7) Scholarships: Japanese Language Program is in process of applying for acceptance as a Student

Exchange Support Programs (Scholarship for Short-Term Study in Japan) sponsored by


JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization). If the program is adopted, Meiji University
will offer a scholarship (JPY 80,000) on the last day of the program, to participants who
are either undergraduate or graduate students of Meiji University's partner institution and
meet requirements set by JASSO, within available number. Details will be decided around
March.
**NOTE** Please be advised that JASSOs final decision if the applicants can grant the
scholarship or not will be done at the end of June 2016. Meiji University cannot inform if
applicants can grant the scholarship or not before paying the course fee.
(8) Cancellation Policy
Please be advised that once your application has been accepted and you have paid the fee, the following
cancellation policy applies.
If you notify Meiji University in e-mail by:

May 18, 2016 (Wed) <Japan Time> you will be reimbursed for 100% of the fees.
June 18, 2016 (Sat) <Japan Time>you will be reimbursed for 50% of the fees.
July 8, 2016 (Fri) <Japan Time>you will be reimbursed for 20% of the fees.
After July 9, 2016 (Sat) <Japan Time>, you will not be reimbursed of the fees.

- The cancellation policy applies for any reason whatsoever.


- Any handling or service fees incurred for refunding the fee will be borne by the applicant.
- It will take 2-3 months to reimburse the program fees.

Meiji University
Active Leaders Development Program Focusing on ASEAN-Japan Literacy
Aim of this project is to develop, in both Japan and ASEAN, the active leaders with empowerment in practice
and literacy of Japan/Southeast Asia who can become the bridges between the nations at fields such as
business, journalism, architecture, NGO, government, etc.
To develop such active leaders, Meiji University encourages Japanese and ASEAN students to understand the
language, culture and business customs of both Japan and Southeast Asia by implementing long-term and
short term student exchanges with prestigious universities of the ASEAN countries.
Numerical aim is to reach 1,000 intl exchanges in 5 years, 500 outbound and 500 inbound students.
This program has been recognized as a selected visionary project of the Re-Inventing Japan Project funded
by the Japanese government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology).
