Mbeki: Zuma's supporters lied about him being forced out of

ANC
JOHANNESBURG Former presidentThabo Mbekisays President Jacob Zuma's supporters used
blatant untruths to make the claim that he was being forced out of African National Congress (ANC)
leadership positions at the party's 2005 National General Council.
At that conference, delegates refused to accept Zuma's resignation as deputy ANC leader and forced
him to withdraw it, in a move seen as critical to his eventual victory over Mbeki in Polokwane.
Mbeki is currentlypublishing a series of articles on Facebookin what he says is a bid to prove that he
was not paranoid while in office.
Under the heading -Yet Another Myth - Mbeki And The Monopolisation Of Power the former
president explains that it's wrong to claim he centralised power in the ANC after becoming
president.
He says that Cabinet appointments and big party decisions all occurred after consulting ANC
officials and structures.

Mbeki then quotes at length from the

book Eight Days In September - in
which his former director general
reverend Frank Chikane claims people
were prepared to lie and distort facts
about the 2005 National General
Council.
Mbeki says Chikane is reflecting
accurately on what happened when he
reports a delegate stood up and called
for Zuma's reinstatement and the
situation played out like a
choreographed show.
Thus he says - was born the fabrication that ANC members haddefeated a political conspiracy
against Zuma.
