becauseIhavebeencollectingTolkien'sdifferentworks,andhaverecentlycameacross
Roverandom,whichcaughtmyeyewithitsinterestingstoryanditsgenre(Whichhappenstobe
fantasy)Afterreadingthedescription,andsomeofthecontent,Iwasdrawninandbeganto
delvein.Anotherreason,isbecausethebookitselfcontainsastudyofthewayitwaswritten,
andhowthestorychangedandwasimprovedovertheyears.SoonceIsawthisbookandallit
hadtooffer,Icouldntresistthiswonderfulworkofliterature.

Inthisstory(IreaditallsoIllsumitup)ayoungandobviouslyslightlyfoolishdog
namedRover(LaterRoverandom)hasaconfrontationwithawizard,whichendswitharather
uncomfortablebewitchmentthatturnsRoverintoatoydog.Laterheiswhiskedawaytoanew
family,whereheislaterlostonthesoftwhitebeachesbytheseaunabletomoveduringthe
dayandalone,butnotforlongbecausehehasanotherruninwithawizard,butluckilyforhim,
thiswizardisofabettertemperandsendRoveronmanyadventuresashetriestoregainhis
originalformandfindhiswayhome.Roversadventuresleadhimfromthemoontothedark
reachesoftheocean,wherehefinallycatchesthewizardwhohadputthespellonhiminthe
firstplace,andaftermanyquarrelsandproblems,Rover(OrnowRoverandom)isableto
persuadethewizardtoreturnhimtohisoriginalsize,sohecanfinallyreturnhome.

wasreadingthenotesaboutthebookIrealizedthatJ.R.RTolkienmayhaveintendedmany
othertopicstobeinthebookthenmanypeoplerealize,suchaswhenRoverwassoldasatoy
tohisnewfamily,beforehewasboughtthestorekeepershadraisedhisprice,andthismay

followingthemothtoanunknownlocation.Butalongthewayshehasaruninwithadogand
onlyescapeswiththehelpofsomeothercatsfromanearbyfarm,wholetherrestandeat
beforeshesetsoutagain,butnotalonethistimeforoneofthefarmcatshadbeendreaming
aboutMothflightwithoutevermeetingher,andconvinceshertoallowhimtogowithher.After

tellshimhegivesherhissupport,butsheisntsureifshecancarryoutthishugetask.(oops,

Iquitelikethisbookduetothefactthatitisnotlikethelordoftheringswithalotof
detail,butisfasterpacedandkeepsyourattentionfocusedonwhatishappening.Thebookis
writtenbeautifullyandbringstheworldtolifeinyourheadwithsuchadventureandexitement.
