Dear

Parents and Guardians,

Kindergarten students have begun an inquiry unit on baking. We were inspired by the
story of The Gingerbread Man and are really excited to bake together as a classroom
community. Our inquiry will be a comprehensive unit and will cover many learning
outcomes from the Program of Studies. Here are some of the outcomes we will cover
(but not limited to as there are LOTS):
Literacy
o Expresses ideas and develops understanding
o Shares and reviews information
o Enhances and improves work
o Presents and shares information
Mathematics
o Uses direct comparison to compare two objects based on a single
attribute
o Relates a numeral to its quantity
Environment and Community Awareness
o Becomes aware of the 5 senses and how they are used to explore,
investigate and describe their world
o Demonstrates awareness of the properties of objects and events in the
environment by arranging objects of events in logical order
o Becomes aware of cause and effect relationships
o Generates ideas to make personal sense of objects, events and
relationships
Citizenship and Identity
o Appreciates the impact group members have on each other
o Demonstrates respect for the diverse ways individuals cooperate, work
and play together
o Assumes responsibility for personal actions, words and choices
Physical Skills and Well Being
o Recognizes appropriate nutritional habits
o Recognizes that nutritious foods are needed for growth and to feel
good/have energy e.g., nutritious snacks

In order to complete many of the baking projects we will need some extra volunteers in
the classroom. Please check the blog regularly for updates on when we need some
extra help.
