Ijam Reflection

My name is HaoPeng Ye. I transferred form a language school to Pasadena City College. I
believed that everyone might be excited and worry about becoming a college student. I also very
excited to be a college student, and I had a lot of worry and questions. Can I understand the class?
How can I adapt American college? How can I success in PCC? However, I was not so worried,
after I attended Ijam.
When I got a notice that I need to attend Ijam for one week, I thought it must be a boring
week. It must talk about some useless thing. After I attended the first day of Ijam, I changed my
mind. During the Ijam, professor introduced the Pathway program that just for international
student. It has a lot of benefits for us. First, we are provided priority registration. Therefore, we do
not have to worry about taking courses problem and below 12 units. In addition, every
international student will have a coach. If we have any questions, we can go to see our coach.
Coach will be glad to help. It will be faster than going to see consoler. We can see our coach in
TLC. TLC is a learning center for international student to study. We can use TLCs computer to
finish our assignments. If we have any questions in our assignments or any other questions in
class, we can find a tutor to help us in TLC. TLC is the one of best learning center for us to study.
Furthermore, we were assigned to different groups with tutor during Ijam. My tutor is Kobe
that is not a famous basketball player Kobe. During we worked in a group, out tutor shared his
experience in PCC. For example, we can join in a club that can help us to transfer to university. He
also gave us some accommodation of club which one is better. Moreover, if we send e-mail to our
professor, we should be polite. He recommended some places where we can go such as Six Flat,
Disneyland, Universal studio and Staple Center. He also told us some class culture of America.
How to adapt American culture? It helps us more know about American life and college life in
PCC.
Ijam is a useful activity for new student in PCC. It can not only help new student to know
more about American college life and PCC but also help new student success in PCC. If we do not
attend Ijam, we will be difficult to be success in PCC.
