Introduction
In the past, malignant conditions in
children were primarily diagnosed by
histopathologic techniques performed on
specimens obtained during surgery and
involved extirpation of a mass or open
biopsy.

cont
Improvements in diagnostic imaging,
newer techniques in molecular biology,
and progress n surgical techniques have
permitted accurate diagnosis and staging
of many types of childhood tumors using
minimally invasive approaches.
Simple hybridization strategies & southern
blotting were originally used.

cont
Fluorescence insitu hybridization (FISH),
polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and
reverse transcriptase.
