Biggest network of rails
Indian railways(IR) has the biggest network of
rails in the world making it possible to travel to
most of the parts of the country.Railway tracks are
laid from JK to kanyakumari and from Itanagar to
Surat.
People prefer trains rather than other transport system to
travel because its cheap. Trains are their first choice of
travel. The system runs thousands of trains every day
carrying billion of passengers.
A look behind IR’s Technology
A Robust system.
High carrying capacity.
Powerful & variety of engines.
Railway coaches are made more ductile and malleable.
Automated signaling system.
Computerized panel interlocking system.
Latest development in tracks

See the difference in the two tracks. A completely new design.

Apart from these all the tracks are regularly monitored using Ultrasonic
sound to detect damage in rails.
GPS and ACD
ACD
ACD stands for anti collision device.Now-a-days most
of the electric and diesel trains are equipped with this
device.
GPS
GPS-Global positioning system has also been
employed in IR system. It ensures a smooth traffic.
Power efficient trains
Mumbai is the first city in India to run the most power
efficient Local train.
This train consumes upto 40% less power than the
conventional one.
Developed by German railways in collaboration with
Indian railway.
Special Trains
Lifeline Express-It’s a hospital on wheels and the
world first one.It is equipped with all medical tools
and other accessories required for medical attention.
Palace on wheels-A luxury train that runs in Rajasthan
carrying tourist across the city of Raja,Maharaja’s.
Some Demerits
We don’t have high speed trains.
The trains are often unsafe.
Many a times damage to the property is made.
Passenger trains do not run on time.
