Grant Application

Euchee Creek Elementary school is a Title I school located in Grovetown, GA. This school is
located in a rural Columbia County. Currently ECE houses less than 400 students in grades Pre-K through
5. As part of the school improvement plan, ECE would like to increase literacy among the students. In
order to do this, the media center would like to start a family reading program for grades pre-K through
2. Starting a reading program in the younger grades will help foster the love of reading at an early age
with the hope that this love will continue throughout the students’ years in school. The details of this
program are outlined below.

 On the first day of school, each student in grades Pre-K through 2 nd grade would receive a new
book welcoming them to their new grade.
 Each student will be given a calendar for the current month. Five days a week, the child must
read with his or her family for a total of 20 minutes. The parent can read to the child, the child
can read to the parent, the child can read with the parent, but the parent and child must read
together.
 The time read will be logged onto the calendar, and the parent will sign the calendar.
 Students should read a total of 100 minutes or more per week. After 400 minutes have been
logged for the month, the child is eligible to receive a free book!!!

The money needed for this program is for the purchase of books to reward the students for
reading. A suggested amount of money would be anywhere from $1500-$2000, with about $100 used
to buy paper for newsletters and calendars.

A grant application has been submitted to Target for the amount of $2000.
