Many people have made important achievements in history.

All former President of South

Africa, Nelson Mandela, fought for equal rights for black Africans in South Africa. Nelson
Mandela was so dedicated to his movement that he was imprisoned. In order to achieve equal
rights for all races in South African Nelson Mandela and his supporters had to put a stop to the
Apartheid by using the people he encountered on his exploration of Africa as help. The Apartheid
was a system of racial segregation in South Africa enforced through legislation by the African
National Party. Mandela explored Africa, visited London, and received military training in
Ethiopia. Nelson Mandelas gave hard work to receive equal rights for all African people,
brought about an exchange: his people gave him loyalty and honor. Nelson Mandela encountered
so many great people during his lifetime like Jongintaba Dalindyebo, who adopted him after
Mandelas father died, and groomed him to be the great man he became. Though Mandela faced
many trials and tribulations, that could have discouraged him and caused him to give up the fight
of ending apartheid, he persevered and finally succeeded.
The primary and secondary sources are important to the project because, they tell more about
Mandela and others, than just the apartheid. Mandela went to tribal meetings to follow in his
fathers footsteps in being the leader. Also it talks about his personal life, such as his two wives
and his children. The primary sources shows actual real-life pictures of Mandelas journey all
over Africa. The secondary sources have well known writers that have done great research on
Nelson Mandelas journey.
The project competition category(website) gives students the opportunity to do extensive
research on a specific topic and develop a thesis that can connect back to that topic. It also gives
students a chance to gain more knowledge on different topics that we seem interested in. The

project helps us to build our knowledge and learn about past history that has made certain
countries to what they are today.
Nelson Mandelas main goal was to achieve equal rights in South Africa. Mandela was being
groomed to counsel the tribal rulers when he was ready. So Mandela had to be sent to Clarkebury
Boarding Institute, a Methodist school. In 1962, Mandela traveled to Ethiopia for military,
political, and spiritual training. Haile Selassie trained and armed Mandela for the Apartheid
struggle in South Africa.Nelson Mandela perseverance helped him reach this goal; he was so
dedicated to the movement that he spent a large portion of his life in prison. After 27 years in
prison, he was released and continued his movement. His hard work paid off further when all
South African citizens were allowed to vote in the 1994 election, and he was elected president of
South Africa. Mandela Joined the African National Congress who protested Apartheid. Nelson
Mandela ended Apartheid and became a global icon for human rights by never giving up.
