MIS Infrastructures are the plans for how a firm will build, deploy, use,

and share its data, processes and MIS assets (helps protect your data)
(Ex: hardware, software, network, client, server)
3 Primary types of infrastructures:
Supporting operations: identifies where and how info is
maintained and secured. Done through the following:
o Through backup and recovery backup=exact copy,
recovery = ability to get system back up after a
crash
Fault tolerance ability for a system to respond
to unexpected crashes/fails and automatically
takes over with no loss of service
Types of fault tolerance: failover-a redundant
server offers an exact replica of RT data &
failback- when the primary machine recovers
and resumes operations back to original server
o Disaster recovery able to recover info or systems in
event of disaster
Disaster recovery cost curve charts the cost of
unavailability vs the cost to recover over time
-> finds the equilibrium
o Business Continuity planning plan to restore critical
functions after disaster within a predetermined time
Supporting change: agile so can change direction quickly
o 7 characteristics of an agile MIS infrastructure:
accessibility (levels of access), availability (times
when system is operational), maintainability
(transform to support environmental changes),
portability (op. on different devices), reliability
(accurate info), scalability (adapt to size, should be
about to sustain 50% growth), usability (userfriendlyness
