Character Profile and Casting Considerations
As part of the F634 coursework requirements, I aim to audition a
number of potential female characters that I believe have the
potential to take the role of Isabella Nicholls (the older version) and
the role of Isabella Nichols (the flashback version). I have an ideal
character look for both individual characters as I have a particular
way that I would like the characters to be presented in terms of
appearance, clothing, race for example.

Character Profile 1:
Name: Isabella Nichols (older character)
Ethnicity: The ethnicity of the character is African/British. Isabella
will have a relatively dark-skin complexion with long, straight hair.
The reason I chose this ethnicity is because based on the genre of
my film, it is based on the representation of black females.
Age: The characters age is going to be 24 years old, as she has
finished university and has recently moved out of her mothers
house. Also, a reason why the character will be played as a 24-yearold is because my creative artefact is mostly a reflection of some of
the painful experiences she endured in her adolescent years.
Representation: The representation of Isabella Nichols is a strongwilled, young British/African woman who has a 1 st class degree in
Law. She has a smart and sophisticated style, and takes pride in
looking good. Throughout the film, she is represented as someone
who has gone through a lot but has never let her past get in the way
of her future.
Character Profile 2:
Name: Isabella Nichols (younger character)
Ethnicity: The characters ethnicity will need to be the same as the
older character who is playing Isabella. This character will be playing
Isabella in her younger years as the film is mainly a reflective
monologue with flashbacks scenes included.

Age: The characters age for the younger version of Isabella will be
between 16-17 years old, as the flashbacks scenes that will be in my
film will involve experiences she had as a teenager.
Representation: The representation of this version of Isabella
Nichols is someone who feels as if the whole world is against her
and struggles to talk to people about things that have happened to
her. Nevertheless, this character always puts a brave face and
continues with her day whilst keeping her thoughts and feelings
bottled up.
Character Profile 3:
Name: Michael Stevenson
Ethnicity: This character will be a dark-skin African and/or
Caribbean man who will be playing the character of Isabellas
husband-to-be.
Age: Preferably, the character will be older than Isabella as this is
typical of a relationship.
Representation: The representation this character will have is a
well-educated and intelligent black man, who knows what he wants
and his ultimate goal is to make his wife-to-be happy.

FINAL CAST:

I chose to cast Angel Oben-Ethci as the character

of Isabella Nichols for a number of reasons. She is
able to portray different emotions effectively, and
showed great enthusiasm and willingness to take
part during the audition. Angel has also been
involved in a few films previously and the skills
that she has learnt were shown in her
performance. Furthermore, she already has a
mature look and her height is a bonus and for
these reasons, I chose to cast Angel Oben-Ethci as
Isabella Nichols.

I chose to cast Laurene Ngom to play the

younger version of Isabella Nichols. Her current
knowledge and experience of acting as an ALevel Drama student was an advantage as she
understood the basic requirements. Laurene
showed great initiative when auditioning for
this role as she was able to improvise if she
couldnt remember the lines exactly. Laurene
also has a lot more free time than the others.
For these reasons, Laurene Ngom was casted as
the younger version of Isabella Nichols.

I chose to cast Keanon McSween as Michael

Stevenson for various reasons. He is reliable
and punctual, and I feel his appearance will
be best suited for this role. I feel his height
goes in his favour as males are typically taller
than females in a relationship and he is taller
than Angel. Keanon has the appropriate
costume for the character he auditioned for
so he was casted as Michael Stevenson.
