Close Up

A Close UP shot is a shot of a


certain feature or part of a
subject that is taking up the
whole frame.

Close ups are used to show


expressions and emphasize
them also.

In this case the Sams head is


taking up the full frame .

Mid Shot (MS)

A Mid Shot is a shot where a


part of a subject is in frame
while allowing the full
impression of the whole subject.

Theses shots are normally from


the waist up and are used to
show an action of a subject.

To the left is an example of a


Mid Shot.

Long Shot (LS)

A Long Shot is a shot that covers


the full subject with some space
at the bottom and top of the
subject.

This shot is often used to show a


full subject and give a general
impression rather than specific
details.

Here we have a Long Shot Sam


standing in front of a door.

Tilt
A Tilt camera shot is when the
camera is stationary and rotates
on a vertical plane. It is almost
like someone nodding head to say
Yes.
This Shot is often used in POV
(Point of View) or is used to show
a full subject without having to
use a Long Shot to do so.

Pan

This shot is when the camera


moves horizontally in order to
make the camera sweep around
the scene.

A pan shot is often used when


filming cars or taking shots of
moving objects and subjects.

Low/High angle

A High Angle shot is shot from a


higher level to the subject .

High Angle shots are used to


make the subject seem smaller
and weaker.

A Low Angle shot is the opposite


to a High Angle shot and is shot
from a lower level than the
subject.

This is used make the subject


bigger and look more powerful.
For example this type of shot
may be used for a Villain.

Tracking

A Tracking Shot is when the


camera follows the subject that is
moving. This is done via the use
of methods such as tracks or
steady cams.

This is shot is used generally


when something is moving as if
you the viewer are following
them. It is used for continuity and
to make the audience feel more
engage.

Extreme Close Up (ECU)

An Extreme Close Up is a
shot that shows extreme
detail on a subject.

This type of shot is used


to for a multiply of
reasons but is generally
used to emphasize a
detail.

In this example we have


an Extreme Close Up of
Sams hand an it clearly
shows the lines in his
hand.
