Task 1.6: Editing Case Study

Cutting to the Beat: This is where

a particular scene of a video or
film goes black for a split second
and changes scene to match the
beat. It is used as it engages the
videos audience by keeping a

variety of shots
Miming and lip syncing- this is where
the person speaking/ singing is
simulating the lip movement that would
be shown if singing or speaking. The
person speaking/ singing always wears
a headpiece that plays the lyrics/ script
into their ear. Lip syncing is performed
for the simple reason of making the
audience believe that he/she is actually
singing/ speaking.

Chroma key- this is a technique

and process that a lot of editors
use. Chroma key is when you need
to get two or more images on the
screen or need to get rid of the
background. To do this the editor
would normally use a green
screen, because the green colour
is easily detectable meaning its
easy to crop. For example weather
broadcast channels would use
Chroma key, as the presenters look
like theyre standing in front of a

Visual effects (VFX): this

is where a live shot is
merged with a generated
image to create a more
realistic viewing. Visual
effects usually have to be
planned in preproduction and then
finally completed in postproduction. Most of the
time visual effects are
completed using multiple
tools and technologies
such as graphic design,
modeling, animation and
Multi Image- this is when
multiple images are
projected onto a screen
together. This is often
used for surreal effects
and also adds complexity.
