1) Point of view is the perspective from which an essay is written: first person (I

or we), second person (you), or third person (he/she/it/one or they).

2) Using you or the second-person (point of view) implies that your reader has
become either the target or the accomplice of the writer, neither of which ought to
be the case. Thus, according to a handout/article produced by the Wheeling Jesuit
University, the second-person (pov) shouldnt be used in argumentative essays.

While it is common to use first-person and second-person point of view in
persuasive writing, since the writer is communicating directly to a person, group, or
organization, these points of view arent encouraged in argumentative writing. This
is because in argumentative writing, which is a more formal kind of writing, there is
no specific audience in mind. In argumentative writing, the multiple sides of a given
issue or topic are ideally discussed using the more objective third-person point of
view.

Second person is useful when detailing a process or instructions that the reader
needs to follow to obtain a specific result. Writers should pay attention when using
second person because it can make their writing sound commanding and in some
cases preachy. Thus, it may be said that this point of view is better suited in
persuasive writing than in argumentative writing- which is a more formal kind of
writing and requires writers to support their position regarding a topic with factual
statements instead of just their opinions.
