WHY:

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, accounting for one of
every four deaths. Obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and a family
history of heart disease can put an individual at greater risk of heart disease. As part of the
County of San Diegos Live Well San Diego vision, as well as American Heart Health
Month, residents can get a free blood pressure check at more than 100 sites in San Diego,
two dozen sites in Orange County, and more than 80 sites in six states in Mexico. Getting a
blood pressure check to know your numbers is an easy step to take for heart health. This is
the fifth annual Love Your Heart event. Last year, more than 21,000 San Diego County
residents got their blood pressure checked as part of the event.
