Education 468: School-Site Supervisor Interview/Questionnaire

Teacher: Jennifer Saylor

School: Joe Nightingale Elementary
District: Orcutt Union School District
Grade Level: Kindergarten/First Combination
1. Planning: Is accomplished each year with the help of all the same
grade level teachers. Teachers use Common Core curriculum. Math
and Language arts books are provided that follow the Common Core
Standards. Planning is done at least one week ahead. Each day is
planned according to where the students are in accomplishing the
standard. Students are often participating in routine tasks because
they are slowly learning letter by letter and number by number.
2. Learning about students:
- There are 3 ELL students within the classroom. Two ELL students
have already tested out of receiving help in regards to ELL classes.
One student is brand new and is currently in the process of being
CELDT tested.
- There is one student who may have a learning disability (ADD)
however because of the young age of the student he has yet to be
properly diagnosed. All signs however point toward him having a lot
of difficulty accomplishing projects and staying on task. Special
accommodations such as having these students sit at closer
proximity to the teacher are helping them stay focused longer.
- Almost all students are considered to be performing at their grade
level. The type of grouping is heterogeneous and based mostly on
how students interact socially together rather than how they are
performing academically.
- Children at this grade level seem very happy and eager to learn
new information. There is a clear difference between the
kindergarteners and first graders. You can however visibly tell the
difference between the two grade levels. The kindergarteners are
clearly learning how to attend school and how to behave in a
classroom setting whereas the first graders are much more
independent and self sufficient.
- Students seem to be very well rounded in regards to their interests.
A large number of students are active in sports outside of school.
Others are interested in mine-craft video games, animated movies,
and popular music.
3. My master teacher is great with classroom management. All student
respect her and other adults within the classroom. There are times
where the teacher has to gently remind students of the classroom
expectations. She does this in a very loving, kind way, that registers
with each student.

4. Things to Remember: Stay organized, be patient, good communication

with students and families
