The first few minutes after an accident, where emergency services need to be pressed into action with minimal delay is very critical for a medical emergency. Studies on the Golden hour show the importance of the first few minutes of the whole 60 following a traumatic injury. The existing ambulance dispatchment system from the city control room relies heavily on the victim's ability to contact the control room and involves a lot of delays and variability due to the human element involved. The need of the hour is a comprehensive solution that automatically detects the collision and also ensures the fast arrival of the nearest ambulance on the spot thereby ensuring rapid intervention in cases of trauma. We employ an in-vehicle hardware module for accident detection, a centralized server for ambulance management and an android application to guide the ambulance driver to the spot and thereby reduce any delays. The in-vehicle accident detection module consists of a Raspberry Pi B+ microcontroller which detects the collision from the irregularities in accelerometer readings. In case of an accident, an alarm is triggered and the GPS coordinates of the victim are then communicated to our central server. The central server has a database of all the nearby ambulances and relays the victim's location to the ambulance nearest to the accident location. On the ambulance-driver side, our android application shows the shortest route with the least traffic on Google Maps so that the driver can reach the location very fast. The application also has a variety of other features. The server is capable of handling multiple accidents at the same time and can dispatch and monitor all the ambulances simultaneously. In case of no injuries, the victim can always switch off the alarm and carry on normally. The system enables the automatic detection of accidents even when the victim may be unconscious. Centralized dispatching and monitoring of all ambulances can be done from a single terminal. Multiple accident handling is achieved with almost zero human element involvement. This is effective on a large scale as well.
