Dear Representative Brady:
My name is
. I work at St. Christophers Hospital for Children and go to school
in your district. I am a high school student in Kensington Health Sciences Academy. Im
writing to you about the large number of abandoned properties that could be used to shelter
the even larger number of homeless people.
My issue is that there are so many abandoned properties and homeless people in Philadelphia.
These issues bring down property values and its bad for the families that are out there. It
also makes neighborhoods look ghetto and trashy. If these building were being used it would
help the economy in money spent on rehabbing and maintaining buildings inside and out. It
would also increase tax revenues. It would increase safety to the many hazards abandoned
buildings bring. This is important to me because its sickening on how many homeless people
and families there are when theres abandoned properties that no one is using except to go
there and do stuff that theyre not supposed to be doing. The U.S. spends so much money on
military spending and aid to other countries and we cant help our own people who have
nothing?
I would really appreciate it if you could increase funding to existing housing and homelessness
agencies and to simplify the process for buying abandoned properties. Thank you so much for
everything you do in our community. I appreciate you taking your time to look over this and I
hope it can make a difference.
Sincerely,
