I created a simulation for a lesson on the legislative branch of the federal

government. This activity simulates the legislative process of how a bill becomes a
law. Students will research a political issue and will write a bill concerning that issue
to present to their classmates in a mock session of the United States Senate.
Through this simulation, students will learn about the process that the members of
the Legislative branch go through to pass a bill to become law. This assignment
sheet details the steps students will take in preparation for the actual simulation.
ISTE Standard 1, and InTASC Standard 3 b, and 8 o are prevalent in this assignment
as students are conducting research online on a political issue for their bill with
assistance from myself as the teacher. InTASC 5 (a, and e) are also present in this
simulation in that students have the opportunity to explore real world issues as well
as to develop communication techniques. In addition, students are learning about
different perspectives from their peers in the debates during the simulation in
accordance with InTASC standard 4b and p. Students are also provided a grading
rubric detailing what they need to do in preparation for the mock Senate session,
citing InTASC Standard 6 d.
