Randolph Lesson Plan Element for Tuning

Background: Students are working on the introduction of the marine science portion of my
Hydrosphere unit. Students are transitioning from fresh water systems and environmental
concerns into oceanography. Within the course we also look at human impacts on the
environment, energy flow in food chains and the environment and general ocean physiology.
In working with the concept of a flipped classroom, I have chosen a few series of you tube
videos which focus on numerous aspect of the human impact/ ocean health interface to shed
light on the many issues facing current marine scientists.
Students will be viewing the videos at home and producing this lesson element at home. I will
be allowing a calendar week for the product to be produced.
I have brought IPADS for the group to view the video string for the assignment.
My question for the tuning group:
I would like suggestions for the product students will be producing. The product must ensure
individual accountability for viewing each video in the sequence and I also would like it to have a
reflective element. It would be functional if the product could be used in a cooperative learning
exercise to allow for classroom talk.
What classroom extension ( CIF strategy) could be used subsequent to this type of video
viewing? This may or may not involve the product. I would prefer this to be < 30 minute post
reflective assignment.
