How can Indonesia reduce its carbon foot print?

Introduction
We all know that greenhouse gasses such as methane, water vapor, nitrogen and
carbon dioxide are very important to keep Earth with livable average temperature
for all living organisms.
However in recent years the increase amount of one particular greenhouse gas
(carbon dioxide which mostly is produced by combustion of fossil fuels) has been
worrying scientists as this would increase the Earths average temperature or is
known as global warming.
Scientists and governments have been working really hard using scientific
understanding to find some possible solutions to reduce the amount of carbon
dioxide in the atmosphere. Indonesia alone has pledged to reduce greenhouse gas
emission by 26% on its own initiative and a further 15% with International help by
2020.
You task is to produce a blog about one way we could reduce the carbon
footprint of Indonesia.
1. Summarized below are some possible scientific solutions to reduce carbon
dioxide in the atmosphere. Choose one solution.

Stage 1.
a. Set up a blog either using blogger or weebly.
Name of the blog Your name , class and year @ blogger.com
Cherylparker8A2016@blogger.com
b. Choose your scientific solution and submit it to google docs along with
your blog address.
The chosen scientific solution:
Urban Forests
Describe what local/global problem this scientific solution is
trying to solve:
The main (global issue) that this solution addresses is the increasing rate
of greenhouse gases and the carbon footprint that we leave on the Earth
(and thus destroying it). Our carbon discharge has upset the balance of
the planets greenhouse gases, and urban forests could play a significant
role in restoring that balance. Urban forests also help improve the air and
water quality within cities that is often contaminated by pollution due to a
large population in a single area.
Stage 2.

Draft research (to be completed on your blog)

1. The scientific solution to reduce CO2 in the atmosphere:

Urban Forests; trees and other greenery that grows within a city, suburb,
or town (urban location).
2. Description of local or global problem why this solution was proposed to
reduce CO2 level:
Under certain conditions plantations can grow relatively fast, thus absorbing CO2
at higher rates than natural forests. In the absence of major disturbances, newly
planted or regenerating forests can continue to absorb carbon for 2050 years or
more.
3. Explain how does it work (include a visual representation to help your
explanation)?

Combined with the suns energy, the trunks, branches, and leaves of trees
(and other vegetation) absorb carbon (CO2) through photosynthesis, thus
removing carbon from our air.

4. State two benefits of this solution.

Carbon in the atmosphere is reduced, the quality of our air and water (local) is
improved, erosion is prevented, biodiversity is increased, it makes property more
valuable/expensive, fertilizes soil, and it reduces chance of social ills (crime, drug
abuse, etc).
5. State two drawbacks/limitations of the solution.
In comparison to the loss of natural forests, tree planting has the potential to
make a limited contribution to reducing CO2 levels in the atmosphere. Falling
leaves sometimes clog gutters, branches litter streets after storm, more bird
droppings, roots that dig into sidewalks, causing allergies.
6. Are there economics, politic, ethics, moral or social issues which contribute to
this solution? (highlight one issues)
economics
There might
be issues with
land and the
ownership of
open space;
they could be
expensive/not
for sale.

ethics

politics
The
government
will most
likely be
unwilling to
invest in trees
despite the
fact that if
you invested
a dollar in a
tree youd get
around 4
dollars back.

moral

social
