BOYNTON VS.

VIRGINIA
Virginia. In 1960, Bruce Boynton attempted to ride an interstate
bus, but was arrested. He was convicted in Virginia courts of
violating a state statute making it a misdemeanor for any person
without authority of law to remain upon the premises of another
after having been forbidden to do so (Boynton v. Virginia,
Wikipedia). Later it was found that Boynton was under authority
of law and his conviction was overturned because the Interstate
Commerce Act forbids any interstate common carrier by motor
vehicle to subject any person to unjust discrimination (Boynton v.
Virginia, Wikipedia). The impact on society back then and even
now is that African Americans were no longer allowed to be
subject to discrimination and it freed them to ride the buses
safely.
