Introduction

This grammar quiz is an example of how I write minor summative assessments. When I
was last reviewing grammar with my students, I did not have the opportunity to implement an
assessment like this one. The next time I teach or review the same material, I plan to present the
students with this quiz to ensure that they understand the concepts of direct objects, indirect
objects, predicate nouns, and predicate adjectives.
The grammar quiz contains three different question types: multiple choice, true/false, and
short answer (InTASC Standard 2: a, e, k, t). I designed these questions to accurately assess how
much the students know about the grammar concepts that we discussed in class (InTASC
Standard 1: a; Standard 6: a, b, e, k; Standard 8: b). Since grammar is best learned in the context
of writing, I also included a short answer question that allowed the students to integrate direct
objects, indirect objects, predicate nouns, and predicate adjectives into a paragraph so that they
could demonstrate how to apply these concepts to their writing (InTASC Standard 1: a; Standard
2: a; Standard 6: a, e, k, t).
