Civil & Structural Work ‘ ULTRATECH ENGINEERING PRIVATE LIMITED Electrodes for welding shall be chosen according to the welding procedure to be adopted and the quality of metal to be welded, Welding electrodes shall conform to 15 814 or IS 1395 as, appropriate. The properties of weld and the heat affected zone material shall not be inferior tothe parent metal properties. Welding Electrodes shal be of standard make of ESAB / D&H / Adani or equivalent Filler rods and wires for gas welding shall confirm to IS 1278. The supply of solid filler wires for submerged arc welding of structural steel shall confirm to IS 1387. ‘The bare wire electrodes for submerged arc welding shall conform to IS 7280. The combination of wire and flux welding shall satisfy the requirement of 1S 3613. Filer rods and bare electrodes for gas shielded metal arc welding shall conform to 186419 and 136560 as appropriate Rivets shall be manufactured from steel conforming to IS 7557. They may also be manufactured from steel conforming to 1 2062 provided that the steel meets the requirement of given in 1S 1148, Rivets shall conform to IS 1929 and IS 2155 as appropriate, High tensile rivets shall be ‘manufactured from steel confirming to IS 1149. Bolts, nuts and washer shall conform as appropriate to IS 1363 (Part 1 to 3), 1S 1364 ( Part 1t0 5), 1S 1267 ( Part 1 to 20), 1 3640, 15 3757, IS 4000, '$ $369, 1S 5370, IS $372, IS 5374, IS 5624, 1S 6610, 15 6623, 1S 6649. The recommendation in IS 4000 shall be followed All stee! shall be straight, sound, and free from defects such as twists, segregation, cracks, surface, flaws, lamination, imperfect edges and other defects. Welding shall be done in accordance with 1S 816:1969. Welding shall be done by experienced welders. 329 Roofing / Cladding Sheets (G1 Colour Coated) Material for sheets and accessories shall strictly confirm to Indian Standards specifications. Supplier shall furnish the test certificates for verification of the same and shall make arrangement for inspection at his works. Erection shall not be started before approval of material including Length of sheet shall be such that number of joints are minimum. Profiled steel substrate shall be cold rol formed conforming to IS $13:2008, Steel core thickness shall be 0.6mm, The minimum tensile strength of the steel shall be 360 NN/Sq.mnm, The trapezoidal ‘ibs shall have a spacing of max. 250mm and the crest depth shall be min. 30mm. The sheet shall be provided with galvanisation of Z 275 (total 275 gram/Sq.M) as per IS 277. Epoxy primer, Top coat and back coat shall be as per Manufacturer specifications. Colour scheme shall be as per client Fequirement. Heat resistance of sheets shall be up to 100 deg C. ‘Accessories such as ridge capping, corner closing louvers etc shall have the same specications as of roof / cladding sheets. Sheets & Accessories shal be fixed with the self-driling tapping GI screws as per manufacturer's specifications 329 Bricks Bricks for general masonry work shall be of class designation 7.5 (average compressive strength 7.SN/sq.mm) and shall conform to IS: 1077, Bricks shall be well burnt, of uniform size, shape and colour, free from cracks, flaws or nodules of free lime and shall emit clear ringing sound when struck. Water absorption alter 24 hours of immersion shall nt exceed 20% by weight of bricks. 73 Civil & Structural Work ULTRATECH ENGINEERING PRIVATE LIMITED Each brick shall have manufacturer's identification marks clearly marked on the og Representative samples shal be submitted to engineer-in-charge for approval 3.210 Other Materials All other materials not herein fully specified and which may be offered for use in the works shall be of first class quality and of such kind as is generally used in first class works, Except where otherwise specified or authorised by the Engineer-in-Charge in writing, all such materials shal conform to the latest edition of the specification of the Indian Standard. The Engineer‘in-Charge shall have right to determine whether all or any of the materials offered or delivered for use in the ‘works are suitable for the purpose. 33 ‘TRADE SPECIFICATIONS. 33. Excavation Excavation shall be done in all type of soll at various levels, baling out of all kinds of water including rain water, sub-soll water, etc., Mud, slush and clay shall be removed before taking up conereting work. Excavation shall be kept free of water while concreting works in progress. Where excavation is done in excess of the depth required, the extra depth shall be filed up to the esired level with lean concrete 1:4:8. Back filing around completed foundations shall be done in layers of 250mm thickness and well compacted from the selected excavated earth and to the lines and levels a indicated in the approved drawings. The surplus excavated earth and all other rubbish arising out of the construction shall be disposed off. Foundation pits of building and equipment shall not be excavated to the full depth. The last 25 em ‘of excavation shal be done just prior to laying of concrete as per drawing Shoring wherever necessary shal be carried out 1. Site Clearance The site around shall be cleared off rubbish of all kinds, rocks, trees, dirt and superfluous earth. All weeds, brushwood, stumps of trees and saplings shall be grabbed up and removed and all serviceable materials stacked neatly where ordered, so as not to interfere with the construction. All holes made during clearing shall be carefully filed up with earth well rammed and neatly levelled off. 2. Lineout Shall be with pegs, pillars, strings and minimum two permanent bench marks in central position to show the correct formation before start of work and maintained till the ‘completion of work by the Contractor after checking by the Consultants/Engineer-in-Charge. 3. Levelling site ‘The proper levelling to prevent rainwater flow into the neighbouring plot as per requirement should be considered. The original and final round levels shall be taken before and after the start of the work and recorded in level book duly signed by Contractor andthe Engineer-in-Charge. Quantities shall be computed by average method. Cross-séctions shall bbe taken at every 15m apart in both directions as decided by the Engineer-in-Charge. For proper measurement 30 Cm wide original ground shall be left undisturbed till final measurement taken and recorded with signatures. Void ratio will be decided by the Engineersin-Charge and the volume accordingly reduced. Civil & Structural Work : ULTRATECH ENGINEERING PRIVATE LIMITED Excavation for Foundations - Through Soll Excavation shall be in all types of strata including clearing away vegetation, if any in foundations, trenches, drains etc, including chiselling blasting etc, i required. All cutting shall be done to exact width of the lowest step of foundation or footings plus working allowance. The sides shall be left plumb where the nature of the soil permits. But the sides must be sloped back, stepped or shored up carefully with the soil ikly to fallin or when the depth of trenches exceeds 1.5 M No undermining shall be permitted. Cuting shall bbe done to precise, levels and any cuttings taken deeper/wider shall be made good to the required levels/sizes. Final surface shall be neatly dressed and levelled as per drawings. Bed of excavation shall be made levels and compact by watering and ramming and defects removed as directed by the Engineer-in- Charge. Report on completion of foundation trenches shall be made to the Engineer-in-Charge and no concrete or masonry shall be commenced without his sanction in writing, Back Filling Back filing shall include earth filling in trenches, around the footings, under floors and for site filing. The earth to be used for filing shall be free from saltpetre, organic or other foreign matter. The space around the foundations in trenches and under floors shall be cleared off all debris, brick pieces or any other rubbish, surplus mortar falls etc, and allowed by the Engineer-in-Charge for fling in writing. Filing shall be done in layers not ‘exceeding 250mm thick. ach layer shal be well watered and rammed. Final surface shall be neatly dressed and each compacted layers to be tested to achieve minimum 95% proctor compaction. 6. ling with Selected Material af Sand Filing ‘The sand shall be clean and free from any foreign matter. Depth of filing shall be taken on consolidated depth and not as depth of loose sand. Ballast shall not exceed 40mm gauge and shall be laid in required thickness dry alled and consolidated with a power roller. oi rial All excess earth, shale shall be disposed off at suitable places to be incicated by the Engineer-in-Charge within plant boundary. ‘The scope of excavation work shal include the following operations . Quality of Concrete Concrete shall bea mixture of cement, aggregates and water. The mix proportions, workability and strengths of the various types shall conform to the requirements of 1S 456:2000. ‘The term water / cement ratio means the ratio by weight of the water to the cement in the mix, expressed as a decimal fraction. The water is that whichis free to combine with the cement in the ‘mix. Ths includes free water in the aggregate but excludes water absorbed or to be absorbed by the aggregate. The aggregate for this purpose shall be taken to be in a saturated surface-dry condition, The absorption of the aggregates shall be determined in accordance with IS 2386: 1963, ‘The term aggregate / cement ratio means the ratio by weight of aggregate to cement in the mix. For this purpose, the aggregate is taken in a saturated surface-dry condition as for the water cement ratio above. ‘The slump of the freshly mixed concrete shall be determined in accordance with the relevant IS code, The slump value shall be taken at work ste during concreting ‘To ascertain strength of concrete, test cubes shall be taken and shal be tested as per 1S 516 : 1959, ‘Works Test Cubes shall be taken at work site during construction and shall be made and tested in accordance 5 516:1959. 3.42 Concrete Mix Proportioning, Civil & Structural Work ULTRATECH ENGINEERING PRIVATE LIMITED The concrete mix proportioning shall be selected to ensure the workability of the fresh concrete ‘and when concrete is hardened. It shall have the required strength, durability and surface finish ‘The determination of the proportion of cement, aggregates and water to attain the required strength shall be made either by adopting nominal concrete mix or by designing the concrete mix as per the guidelines given in I$ 10262:1982. ‘The mix shall be designed to produce the grade of concrete having required workability and characteristic strength not less than appropriate values given in table 2 of IS 456, The target mean strength of concrete should be equal to characteristic strength plus 1.65 times the standard deviation, Mix design done earlier not prior to one year may be considered adequate for later work provided ‘there is no change in source and quality of the materials. From each tral mix, ten preliminary test cubes shall be made and 3 cubes tested at 3 days, three cubes at 7 days and four at 28 days, the test at 3 days and 7 days being intended to give an early indication of possible variation from the required strength. If the difference between the highest and lowest test results from any one trial mix is more than 15 per cent of the average of the strength test results, the test isto be discarded and a further trial mix made, unless all test results S50 obtained are above the required strength. Separate trial mixes are required for each type of concrete, 343 Batching & Mixing of Concrete 3431 General All concrete shall be batched by weight and mixed mechanically in machines. Hand mixing shall not be allowed except only upon the written permission of the Engineer-in-charge. Concrete may either be batched and mixed on site or outside the site and transported thereto. Daily returns shall be provided showing the quantities of cement and the total volume batched of ‘each class of concrete for each section of the works and temporary works. When mixed onsite, batching and mixing shal be s follows 343.2 Batching by Weisht ‘The cement and each size of aggregate shall be measured by weight. The water may be measured by weight or volume. The weigh-batching machines used shall be of 9 type approved by the Engineer-in-charge and shall be kept in good condition while in use on the works. Checks are to be made as required by the Engineer to determine that the weighing devices are registering correcty. ‘The accuracy of the measuring equioment shall be within 2% of the quantity of cement being measured and within #3 % of the aggregates, admistures and water being measured. All measuring equipment shall be maintained ina clean and serviceable condition 3433 Batching Agaregate by Volume Volume batching may be allowed enly where weigh batching is nat practical and provide accurate bulk densities of materials tobe actually used in concrete have earlier been established. Allowance for bulking shall be made in accordance with IS 2386 ( part 3) When batching aggregates by volume is allowed, the cement shall be batched by weight and the water by weight or volume. Each size of aggregate shall be measured in suitable containers the depth of which Is at least equal to their greatest width, The containers shall be of such shape that their volume can be easily checked by measurement. 7 Civil & Structural Work ULTRATECH ENGINEERING PRIVATE LIMITED 348 ‘Mixing Concrete Concrete shall be mixed in a mechanical mixer. The mechanical mixer should comply with 1S 1791 and 15 12119. Each mixer is to be fitted with water measuring (metering) devices. The water measuring device shall be such that its accuracy is not affected by variations in the water supply pressure ‘The batch shall be so charged into the mixer that some water {about 10%) enters the drum in advance of the cement and agaregates. Water shall then be added gradually while the drum isin ‘motion such that all required water shall be in the drum by the end of the first quarter of the mixing time. The mixing shall be continued until there is @ uniform distribution of the materials and the mass is uniform in colour and consistency. If there is segregation after unloading from the mixer, the concrete should be remixed. ‘The amount of concrete mixed in any one batch is not to exceed the rated capacity of the mixer. ‘The whole ofthe batch isto be removed before materials for afresh batch enter the drum. (0n cessation of work, including all stoppages exceeding 20 minutes, the mixers and all handling plant shall be washed with clean mixing water. If old concrete deposits remain in the mixing drum, it shall be rotated with clean aggregate and water prior to production of new concrete. Concrete mixed as above isnot to be modified by the addition of water or in any other manner to facilitate handling or for any other reason. 345 Other Types of Concrete When other types of concrete such as waterproofed, air entrained and pre-stressed concrete is required, it shall be fully specified inthe Particular Specification. 3.46 ‘Quality Control 3.461 Cubes shall be manufactured in an on-site laboratory as per IS 1199, specially equipped for the purpose, in controlled conditions. They shall be made cured, stored, transported and tested to 1S 516. ‘The cube testing machine shall be housed in a laboratory and calibrated in accordance with relevant I code. 'A random sampling procedure shall be adopted to ensure that each concrete batch shall have a reasonable chance of being tested that is, the sampling should be spread over the entire period of conereting and cover all mixing units. ‘The minimum frequeney of sampling of concrete of each grade shall be in accordance with the clause 15.2.2 of 15456. Three test specimens shall be made for each sample for testing at 28 days. Additional sample may be required for various purposes such as to determine the strength of concrete at 7 days or at the time of striking the form work, or to determine the duration of curing. Or to check the testing terror. The specimen shall be tested as described in IS 516 ‘The test results of the sample shall be the average of the strength of three sperimens. The individual variation of should not be more than + 15 % of the average. If more, the test results of the sample are invalid. Civil & Structural Work 3 ULTRATECH ENGINEERING PRIVATE LIMITED 3.462 3.463 347 ‘The concrete shall be deemed to comply with the strength requirements when both the following condition are met: 2). The mean strength determined from any group of four consecutive test results complies with ‘the appropriate limits in col. Of table 11 of IS 456 ) Any individual test result complies with the appropriate limits in col. 3 of table 11 of IS 456, Ifthe above criteria are not satisfied, the unit represented by the sample is questionable and the following actions may be instructed as appropriate: i) Cutting and testing cores from placed concrete i) Non-destructive testing of placed concrete i) Load testing relevant structural units iv) Cutting-out and replacing defective concrete IF the range of individual cube strengths made from the same sample exceeds 15% of the mean, then the method of making, curing and testing cubes shall be checked. In the event of a result having a range exceeding 20%, the result shall be unacceptable and the Engineer may order any of, the following actions 1) Changing the mix i) Improving Quality Control ii) Cutting and testing cores from placed concrete iv} Non-destructive testing of laced concrete Durability Test Concrete shall be tested for durability properties by undertaking absorption and permeability tests (as per relevant 1S code) where appropriate, or directed by the Engineer-in-Charge. Other tests Cubes may be required and trials carried out to determine stripping times for formwork, the uration of curing and to check testing and sampling error. ‘The air content of airentrsined concrete shall be determined for each batch produced until ‘consistency has been achieved, when batches may be tested. The maximum value shall not exceed 2%. Compaction factor, slump, vee bee or other workability tests shall be carried out as required during concreting of permanent works to control workability at the batching plant at the site of the pour. Suggested ranges of workability of concrete measured in accordance with 1S 1199 shall be a5, ‘mentioned in IS 456, 1. Transporting Concrete shall be handled from place of mixing to a place of final deposit as rapidly as possible by methods which will prevent segregation and loss of any of ingredients. It shall be is Civil & Structural Work ULTRATECH ENGINEERING PRIVATE LIMITED If the placing of concrete is delayed due to breakdown then we shall erect vertical stop-ends ‘and form a construction joint or remove the concrete already placed and restart after repair of the breakdown, a directed, Placing shall not take place in the open during storms, or heavy rains. f such conditions are likely to occur the contractor shall provide protection for the materials, plant and formwork s0 that work may proceed. if strong winds are prevalent protection from driving rain and ust shall be provided, ‘The temperature of concrete shall not exceed 38°C at the time of placing Concrete shall nt be placed when the ambient air temperature is below 4°C, During extreme weather, the concreting should be done as per the procedures set out in IS. 17861 ( Parth ) or'S 7861 ( Part2), We shall supply suitable maximum/minimum thermometers and record the shade and sun ‘temperatures at locations where concrete is being placed, '¥ approval has been given for placing at night or in dark interiors, adequate lighting shall be Provided where mixing, transportation and placing are in progress. Before placing concrete for reinforced work on the ground, the formation shall be compacted as specified and a screed of blinding concrete shall be applied to form a surface for construction, Before placing concrete on or against rock, masonry, brickwork or old concrete, loose ‘material shall be removed and the surface washed down, water seepage shall be stopped or channelled away from the work For mass concrete placed against masonry or brickwork the following shall apph 1) The mortar joints in the face work shall have fully hardened ii) The water-cement ratio of the concrete shall be increased to compensate for the absorption of moisture by the existing work, lil) The surface shal be soaked prior to placing iy) The concrete shall be worked around ties and bond stones and into open joints 348 Curing and Protection Concrete shall be protected from sunshine and drying winds by approved shading and windbresks and from cold, heat rain or running water. Exposed surfaces of concrete shal be kept continuously in damp or wet condition by ponding or by covering witha layer of stacking, canvas, Hessian or similar materials and kept constantly wet for at least 7 days from the date of placing concrete in ‘ase of ordinary Portland cement and at least 10 days where mineral admixtures or blended ‘cements are used. The period of curing shall not be less than 20 days for concrete exposed to dry ‘and hot weather conditions. In the case of concrete where mineral admistures or blended cements {are used, itis recommended that above minimum periods may be extended to 14 days. ‘Water used during curing operations shall be fresh potable water. Curing membranes shall be compatible with waterproofing or other materials that may subsequently be applied to the surface of the concrete. Civil & Structural Work ULTRATECH ENGINEERING PRIVATE LIMITED Concrete shall be protected from contamination by sea or brakish water, ol, fuel and other deleterious materials for a minimum period of 30 days after placing, 349 Ready Mixed Concrete Ready mixed concrete, batched off the site, may be used only with the agreement of the Engineer {and shall comply with all requirements of the relevant iS code, The quality and strength of cements shall be determined by site tests, No test results supplied by the ready mix supplier shall be accepted as proof of the quality and strength of the concrete. ‘The concrete shall be carried in purpose made agitators operating continuously or in truck mixers. ‘The concrete shall be compacted and in its final position with 2 hours of the introduction of cement to the aggregate. When truck mixed concrete is used, water shall be added under supervision either at the site or at the central batching plant as agreed by the Engineer but in no circumstances shall water be added in transit. Prior to any ready mixed concrete being ordered, the contractor shall submit to the Engineer details of the supplier and shall arrange for the Engineer to inspect the supplier's recommendations. 3.4.10 Joints Construction joints shall be located and the sequence of placing arranged as approved or as shown ‘on the drawings 10 minimise shrinkage and thermal strains in the concrete, Concrete placing shall not be interrupted except where joints occur, and shall continue after rhormal hours f necessary to achieve this. Joints shall be formed square to the work with keyways included, Construction joints shall be placed at accessible locations to permit cleaning out of laitance, cement slurry and unsound concrete in order to create rough / uneven surfaces. Lupon removal of the framework the joint face shall be inspected, and if the soundness of the concrete is not approved the contractor shal investigate and remedy defects Before, placing is resumed at a joint the set surface shall be roughened to remove laitence and ‘expose the aggregate; the aggregates shall nt be damaged. If damaging materials have come into contact with the surface cleaned by compressed air or water jets and brushed and watered immediately before placing. If required the surface shall be coated with a layer of stif cement {rout prior to placing the new concrete Construction joints shall be sealed with an approved sealant at external and liquid-contact faces ‘construction joints in water-retaining structures shal incorporate an approved water bar Expansion and construction joints shall be as shown in the drawings. A contraction joint in a non- water-tetaining structure shall form a plane discontinuity in the member. The concrete face first cast shall be painted with two coats of approved rubberised bitumen paint before the adjacent concrete is placed. The adjacent concrete shall include @ groove against the joint for sealant, The exposed edges shall be sealed with an approved compound. If a contraction joint is likely to be contaminated, the joint shall be sealed immediately with an approved free-flowing sealing fluid as soon as the formwork has been removed. Civil & Structural Work i ULTRATECH ENGINEERING PRIVATE LIMITED. ‘An expansion joint in 3 non-water-retaining structure shall be formed as for a contraction joint, but resin-bounded cork filler board shall be included so that the adjacent concrete members can expand. {A design joint in a water-retaining structure shall include a continuous waterstop strip of copper, rubber, rubber and steel or PVC fixed across the joints as shown on the drawings. The concrete shall be free from honeycombing and worked against he embedded part of the strip. Projecting Portions ofthe strip shal be protected from damage during operations and in the case of rubber and plastic from light and heat. Bituminous paint shall be applied to the lips of the loop of copper waterstops and the loop filled \with bituminous compound before embedding in the concrete. ‘The method of joining waterstops shall be in accordance with the manufacturer’ instructions. 341 Inserts 34411 General Inserts of any kind lke, fan hooks, sleeves, pipes, bolts and nuts, anchor bolts, anchor beams, frames et., are to be accurately placed in the concrete (and/or brick work) and concreted over, a5, ‘and where required and as directed by Consultant/Engineer-in-Charge. The word ‘INSERT will ‘mean article like anchors, anchor bears, sleeves, pipes, bolts, nuts, hooks and frames etc. ‘The employer may supply the inserts to the Contractor at his option. Otherwise the inserts shall be provided by the Contractor, Material and fabrication etc. forthe inserts shall conform to the specifications for structural steel items or otherwise as directed, All electric conduits and junction boxes and all sanitary pipes, water supply pipes and down pipes that lie within concrete slab, beams, or colurnns shall be laid correctly in place as approved. No cutting of structural concrete will be permitted except in special cases. Conduit pipes should not damage. 35 [GROUTING (BASE PLATES & POCKETS) 351 General Grouting shall be done in 1:2 cement mortar for thickness up to 25mm. For higher thickness, the Brouting shall be done in plain or RCC with Coarse Aggregate 12mm and below gauge. The grade of concrete will be as shown in the relevant drawings or as directed. in some places grouting may be done with special non shrink Grout material as per the manufacturer's instruction and as directed by Engineer-in-charge. ‘The base plate shall be temporarily supported on steel wedges and propery aligned before ‘grouting. Forms shall be built around the base and wet mortar shall be placed under pressure around and under the base. To ensure that no air pockets are left after grouting additional holes, may have to be cut if directed in base plate so that pressure grouting can be carried out through these holes and also inspection of grout can be ascertained, Grouting of Machine Foundations shall be done only after taking the written instructions and in the presence of Erectors, In the base plates/feame, holes driled/cut for grouting purpose are to be covered and welded after completion of grouting, curing and its inspection. 352 Grout Trials |) Unless otherwise directed or agreed as a result of grouting trials, the grout shal ‘a) Consist of only Ordinary Portland Cement and water.
