Pre-lab Questions ( New Set)

Experiment on Determination of Curie PointQ1. Why do you think you required to measure the Curie by both
increasing and decreasing the temperature ?
Q2. Why do you need an AC voltage source to generate the magnetic
field?
Q3. What are the possible sources of error in this experiment?
Q4.It was mentioned in the preparatory session that a special resin was
used at the contact of the metal block (whose Curie Point you are required
to measure) and the "heating element". What is this "special resin"? What
is its speciality?
Michelson's Interferometer
Q1. Are there any special features which the light source used in this
experiment must have? What are they?
Q2. Can you give a rough estimate the maximum distance at which the
white screen (on which you view fringes) can be placed and well defined
fringes will still be formed?
Q3. You have used a green laser for the calibration instead of the red. Will
the calibration quality change if you use the red laser. Give reasons.
Q4.Estimate the backlash error you could introduce if the screw is rotated
forward and backward repeatedly.
Interference/Diffraction/Refraction
Q1. Can you explain the refraction of light using Huygen's principle ?.
(Draw a wavefront picture).
Q2.Say you have an "Invisibility Cloak". If you measure its refractive Index
what sort of value will you expect?
Q3.Say you have a 10megapixel digital camera. You are using it click
pictures of three ladybird insects- one is red, one navy blue and one
green. Keeping in view that diffraction can limit the resolution of
photography which image do you expect to be most resolved? Now
"Google-up" -"diffraction limited photography and find out which
wavelength is best resolved in commercial cameras. Is there a

discrepancy, with you previous answer. Why do you think that is?
(Remember it is a "digital camera")
