KINGS DOMINION ANNOUNCES NEW RIDE FOR 2016 SEASON
Red Tail P51 will begin delighting riders in the spring of 2016
Doswell, VA Kings Dominion, a Cedar Fair Parks location, is announcing a new ride pending
construction at the Virginia location. Construction is set to begin November 13.
Swiss designer Intimin Entertainment, who previously designed the Volcano and Intimidator
roller coasters at Kings Dominion, will design the P51 ride.
The new roller coaster will be located in the Candy Apple Grove section of the park, where the
former Shockwave roller coaster was located.
The Red Tail P51 roller coaster will simulate the feeling of being in a P51 dogfight with fast
turns, loop-de-loops, and a 65 mph initial drop. The metal roller coaster will have polished
aluminum cars with a red tail, evoking images of the original Red Tail P51.
A Red Tail P51 is a World War II fighter plan famously flown by the Tuskagee Airmen. Tuskegee
Airmen is the name for African-American military pilots who served in World War II when the
American military was still racially segregated. They were the 332nd Fighter Group and 477th
Bombardment Group of the United States Army Air Force.
The Tuskagee Airmen painted the tails of their P51s red, as well last he rudder, making them
recognizable and coining the nickname Red Tails.
