Cartilage(Chondrocytes) type II Collagen

Extracellular matrix= Stuff outside the cell

Transport of water in the ECM is made by pumping action of intermittent
cartilage
ECM is made of Fibers + Ground substance(gel-like)
Chondrocytes metabolize glucose by Anaerobic glycolysis

Perichondrium= Dense connective tissue

Is Made up of type I Collagen
Avascular supplied (Arteries,capillaries)
Outer layer is fibrous and inner is chondroblast (Stem cells for
cartilage)
Chondronectin makes up the adherence of Chondrocytes to Extracellular
matrix
Articular cartilage (Rib cartilage, Laryngeal, Trachea)
Irregular cartilage (Bronchi)
Hyaline cartilage: Ground substance
-Have GAGS, PG, Glycoproteins & Extensive Cross-linking(Electrostatic
binding Chondroitin to collagen fibrils
-Core proteins of proteoglycans are linked to Hyaluronic acid chains
H.C Capsular matrix:
-basophilic
- High con of GAGs
- Low con of collagen
H.C Intercapsular marix:
-less basophilic
-High con collagen
-Low con GAGs
Lacuna contains the cells
