Pakistan Education & Research Network @ fa} A Project of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan Sea Anwar Amjad DG (IT)/ Project Director (PERN) aamjad@hec.gov.pk TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN This is to certify that Ms. Zainub Haider D/o Haider Ali Palijo has served Pakistan Education & Research Network (PERN) as @ Support Engineer (Data Com) at the Information Technology Division of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan from October 12, 2010 to May 31, 2012. During the aforementioned tenure, she remained involved in various operational activities of PERN and allied services. Pakistan Education & Research Network is the only purpose-built network in the country to serve the education and research communities of Pakistan. PERN offers premier intranet, internet and R&E services to the higher education institutes, research organizations, teaching hospitals, and organizations helping the promotion of education and research in Pakistan. The network stretches over 6,100 Km of dark fiber across Pakistan and comprised of DWDM equipment primarily; with some long-haul spurs on SDH transmission equipment as well. PERN transmission network offers two (02) lambdas of 10Gbps each at present and capable of offering 8 lambdas without any major upgrade. The network is also capable of offering 40Gbps lambdas with some upgrade in the deployed systems. The network connects three (03) Regional PoPs, five (05) sub-Regional PoPs, and five (05) Aggregation PoPs as Core network of PERN. Ms. Zainub has been assigned with tasks relating to routing plane of the network and deployment of advanced network technologies, like IP multicast, MPLS/ VPLS, IPv6, etc. She has also assisted in feasibility study for IP Multicasting in PERN prior to its rollout, and remained involved throughout its implementation by senior engineers at the PERN Network Operation Center. Ms. Zainub has also contributed with her technical writing skills and prepared PERN NOC monthly reports as well as PERN Operational Manuals for routers installed at the higher education institutes. Ms. Zainub has also assisted in implementing network monitoring plane in PERN Operations using advanced diagnostic and monitoring tools, like PerfSonar and PingER. Ms. Zainub has been found a diligent, sincere, and pro-active in performing the tasks assigned to her.
