History of our Solar System

(p953)

Theory = A nearby star exploded 4.6 billion years ago causing a nebula to contract due to
gravity. The speed and density of the nebular material increased during contraction therefore
increasing the temperature until the Sun was born at about 10,000,000 C. All other debris was
pulled into a flat, counterclockwise rotation by the gravity of the Sun. The heat of the Sun didnt
allow for solids to form any closer than the Asteroid Belt.
Evidence = observing other nebulas and stars
radioisotopes
planets lie in single plane
physics of circular motion & gravity
temperature of fusion
size and composition (gas vs solid) and distance from Sun of planets
