Put warning signs in position. + Make sure that no one is working on the equipment before starting the prime mover. + Donot, under any circumstances, start the prime mover or operate equipment when a warning sign is attached. @PPPPReP 1.2 MPI01680.M1CB-OMM - at 34 August 2012 ‘Make gure that high pressurised oil can not leak. Place protective guards in position. ‘Abways wear safety glasses and protective clothing when you work on equipment. Olt pipes or hoses of insuficientstrangth can burst under pressure. Severe injury can result, Do not disconnect hydraulic pipes or hoses when pumps are operating, ‘Make sure that all protective quards and covers are correctly installed. ‘Make sure that rotation by gravity is not possible, Make sure that uncontrolled rotation of the hub and propallorshatt is not possible during launching and outfitting, Do not mix metric fasteners with other (standard) fasteners. \Mismatehed or incorrect fasteners wil cause Gamage to or malfunction of equipment or ean result in injury. Disconnect the mains and back up power supplies when you work on the remote control and put warning signs in postion ‘The propulsion control system is always under live voltage. Disconnect interface circuits that are under voltage from other power supplies, Always attach iting equipment tothe litig points orto places Indicated on the (ranspon) ‘drawings. Use shackles or slings, Do not attach iting equipment to machined surfaces, shett ends, piping work or other externally ‘mounted equipment, Make sure that you place a sufficiently sized oil or uid catch tanks). ‘Aways collect and remove spilled oil or lui from (disjassemibly procecures, Make sure that you drain system ol or uid before equipment cisassembly. ‘Make sure thers is no dirt or external material in the hydraulic or lubrication systema, This can cause extensive damage to equipment, Dornot use alkaline or chemical detergents to clean rubber, synthetic or painted component ‘They can cause damage to equipment, Wipe with a dry cloth only. |" pressure pumps are installed in parallel, make sure the hydrauilc system is designed for this purpose. Check the hydraulic system first. ‘Simultaneously running the two pumps can cause serious damage to equipment, ‘Always earth sereened cables exclusively at cabinet side, never at panel or component sida. Electric welding introduces spikes. ‘Always disconnect the mains and back up power supplies tothe electronic cabinet orto Components close to the welding area. Do not use control panets or electrical cabinets as an earth point when welding, this can cause! damage to electrical components When welding, aways connect toa good earth pont close to the welding area to avoid damage! to-equipment surfaces, When welding, protect the surroundings from welding spaters. System Description System Description The transverse thruster transforms power from the prime mover into a thrust force in the starboard or port direction on the ship, The transverse thruster system mainly consists of a tunnel, @ right-angle gearbox, a fixed pitch (FT) propeller, a flexible coupling, a prime mover, a lubrication system and a propulsion control system. 2.1 Tunnel The right-angle gearbox with propeller is mounted in a tunnel that connects port and starboard side of the vessel, The tunnel is welded to the hull forming an integral part of the construction; in special designs (low- noise and/or mountable tunnel), the central part ofthe tunnel containing the right-angle gearbox with propeller is bolted to a frame, 2.2 Propeller The fixed pitch propeller transforms the torque from the prime mover into the thrust force on the ship. 2.3. Right-angle gearbox The shafts and bevel gear set, inside the right-angle gearbox, transmit the torque and reduce the revolutions of the input shaft. The right-angle gearbox is bolted to the mounting flange in the tunnel, 2.4 Flexible coupling ‘flexible coupling connects the prime mover (occasionally the intermediate) shaft and the pinion shaft. In ‘most cases, the flexible elements of this coupling can be replaced without disconnecting the shafts. 2.5 Prime mover ‘The prime mover delivers the power to the transverse thruster installation, In most cases, the prime mover is an electric motor. Alternatives: hydraulic motor or diesel engine. 2.6 Lubrication system The main function of the lubrication system is to supply lubrication for the gearbox. To prevent oil leaks end water to enter the system, the lubrication system keeps static pressure onto the ‘seals. The static pressure is given by a header tank which is installed at the required height above the wa. terline. in case of a pressurized header tank, the required pressure is controlled by a pneumatic pressure control unit, Optionally the lubrication system has: + lubrication pump set, to circulate and filter the lubrication of + hand pump, to drain and to fil the lubrication systern by hand; + a.drain and fll valve, to drain and to fil the lubrication system withthe help of an extemal pump set. 2.7 Propulsion control system The propulsion control system transmits orders from the control station in command to the thruster install- ation. If a different type of oil be used, ask Warisilé Netherlands B.V. for advice. + The system is filled through the filer/breather of the lubrication oll tank or with a (hand}pump (if available). The safest way to check if the pod is filled up properly is to disconnect the “VT” line at the lubrication cil tank during filling and to see if oil is coming up in this line. The filing of the gear pod must be done slowly, thus preventing pressure building up in the pod, which can damage the shaft seals. + For venting during filing loosen the pipe coupling at the sealing housing "VT" connection and the pplug on top of the flange of the pod. + After filing, check the oil level of the tank often, the gear pad vents slowly. * See the drawing "Assembly of the Pod" for details \Venting is done automatically by the "VT" line at the top of the pod if this line is installed with an upward slope from the gear pod to the tank. Draining If oil must be replaced completely: + The header tank must be drained by opening SOV7 or removing the plug. + The pod can be drained by using the plug (2477) in the pod body. * See the drawing "Assembly of the Pod! for details MP/01680.M1CB-OMM - 21 ‘31 August 2012 Operation & Maintenance Manual 7.
