Mr. John Doe
UNM Physics and Astronomy
1919 Lomas Blvd NE
Albuquerque, NM 87131
Dear Mr. Doe
I would like to have a chance to have a summer internship position with the Physics department.
I would like to have solid experience in the field before I star applying for jobs in the physics world.
Im currently majoring in physics at the University of New Mexico and will receive my degree this
coming semester. I have some knowledge of scientific research but I would like a solid background with
someone who has a plethora of experience. I recognize the importance of the departments research; that
is why I want to receive further exposure to advance my career resume.
When I graduate I want to work for an institute that specializes in computer models in physics. If I
receive the experience from the cutting edge research projects done at the physics department, I can
achieve my goal. I would want to receive the training from your department to strengthen my background
in the field.
I do have some experience using computer based software for scientific research. I can use MATLAB
with great results and also have a background in other similar software. I can use both PC and Mac with
great proficiency, along with LabVIEW. My other skills are also in the Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
field, for example I can use Maya and SOLIDWORKS. I would be proficient with Microsoft software as
well, like WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT. I can use computers very well but I can also use heavy
machinery with certain proficiency. I can weld and solder with great precision as well. The last thing
worth mentioning is my minor in mathematics.
I would like the chance to speak with you about an internship opportunity that you may have.
I will be available all semester for further communication. I can be reached by phone at (505)-304-2440
and also by e-mail at jorozc32@unm.edu.
