AIR

- is a mixture of gases, nitrogen and oxygen, that

surrounds the earth.

include carbon dioxide, oxides of nitrogen,

chloroflourocarbons, and the like.

AIR POLLUTION

GLOBAL WARMING

-is an undesirable change in the physical,

chemical and/or biological
characteristics of air which will adversely affect
plants, animals, human beings and even
inanimate materials.

-is when the earth heats up or the temperature

rises.

AMBIENT AIR QUALITY

-means the average atmospheric purity as
distinguished from discharge measurements
taken at the source of pollution.
CONTAMINANTS
- biological, chemical, physical, or radiological
substance which, in sufficient concentration, can
adversely affect living organisms through air,
water, soil, and/or food.
ACID RAIN
-refers to what scientists called acid deposition. lt
is caused by airborne acidic pollutants and has
highly destructive results.
DIOXINS AND FURANS
- unwanted byproducts created in manufacturing
other chemicals such as some disinfectants,
wood preservatives and herbicides.
GREENHOUSE GASES
-gases that can potentially or can reasonably be
expected to induce global warming, which

HYDROCARBON (HC)
-is an organic compound consisting entirely of
hydrogen and carbon.
MIST
- a phenomenon of small droplets suspended in
air
Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)
- are organic compounds that are resistant to
environmental degradation through chemical,
biological, and photolytic processes.
Polychlorinated biphenyls
-are a class of organic compounds with 1 to 10
chlorine atoms attached to biphenyl, which is a
molecule composed of two benzene rings. PCBs
were widely used for many applications,
especially as dielectric fluids in transformers,
capacitors, and coolants.
Particulates or particulate matter (PM)
-or fine particles, are tiny subdivisions of solid or
liquid
matter suspended in a gas or liquid.
