Artifact H1: Portfolio Reflection

This portfolio processcreating my portfolio and presentationhas been a time of great

reflection about my experiences through the Student Development Administration program. I
spent countless hours in anxiety deciding on the perfect artifacts and words to write in my
narratives. I wanted to them to perfectly represent the brightest and best aspects of my SDA
journey and what I have accomplished these past two years. I feared throughout this portfolio
process that in such a seemingly short amount of time I had not learned enough or been prepared
enough for what is beyond the program. I also worried that what I would share on my portfolio
would not be able to fully capture who I am and what I found to be my most significant learnings
and experiences. But, as my portfolio started to come together and the pieces fell into place, I
discovered that I have indeed learned a lot about the field, the profession, and the intricacies of
working for and with students. In particular, I have learned about diverse needs of students
both based on different identities and stories and the needs of students in particular institutional
cultures and environments. This has allowed me to truly define my role and responsibilities to
provide opportunities/access and to educate, support, and empower my students and colleagues.
This portfolio process has made me realize the amazing amount of work that I have
accomplished in what I saw as a short amount of time. In looking through old classwork,
readings, photos, presentations/projects, and so on, I realized that I have indeed made significant
contributions within the context of my assistantship, coursework, internships, and leadership role
with SUSDA. Although, the greatest lesson I believe that I am taking away from this portfolio
process is the confidence that I am indeed well-prepared, ready, and committed to fulfilling my
mission to help others discover their potential to learn, lead, and contribute. It has affirmed my
value as an aspiring student affairs leader, proven my skills and knowledge, and shown my
potential to contribute to the profession in my own meaningful and unique ways.
