MEMO TO: Whom it may concern
FROM: Amelia Hadfield SUBJECT: Recommendation of Courtney Russell DATE: February 2016 During the Spring 2016 semester, I have served as university supervisor of Courtney Russell in her internship in Horry County Schools, at Waterway Elementary School, in third grade. In that role, I have observed Courtney teach four lessons followed by informal conversations analyzing each lesson. I will also conference formally with her and her cooperating teacher midsemester and again at the end of the term. Based on the observations, our conversations, and the conferences, I would describe Courtney as a competent and hard-working beginning teacher. Her lessons consistently include appropriate technology and supporting resources. Her instruction includes a variety of instructional strategies that challenge children to think critically. Her accompanying assessments match the lesson objectives. Working closely with her cooperating teacher, she also uses district test data to plan for group and individual needs. Courtney participates in all meetings and workshops and is eager to learn new ideas. She is open to constructive suggestions for improving her practice. The students in Courtneys class seem to respect her authority and are eager to respond to her expectations. She works to maintain a positive and supportive attitude that invites children to the learning. She treats all children with respect and communicates high expectations for each one. For these reasons, I heartily endorse Courtney as a candidate for an Elementary teaching position in your system. Should you have specific questions, please feel free to contact me at one of the numbers listed above. Thank you.
