Working with her during the final semester has beena pleasure. Her teaching abilities make her commendable student teacher. (One of Morgan's strength is in her ability to make positive changes in her teaching style and apply those changes in the classroom. Morgan constantly reflects on her teaching, learning from the teachers around her, and uses that information to improve her teaching, She is able to take information from a variety of sources (i.e; students, collaborative teachers, parents, and administrators) making an atmosphere that has allowed her to create a nurturing, comfortable, and structured learning environment. Morgan brings a strong personal commitment to teaching into her classroom. Her passion for self- improvement, concern for all students, and genuine friendliness for both staff and students is obvious. She leads when necessary, and has successfully implemented our curriculum as she has taken over the classroom. She has demonstrated knowledge and interest in our international Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (Great Lakes being one of the first 1B authorized PYP School in Western Michigan). She has made individualized lesson plans, differentiated instruction and held students to high expectations, Morgan has worked herd within our curriculum and has suggested meaningful changes. She also has effectively problem solved with many of our students, helping them to make better choices and successfully deal with daily frustrations. Morgan completed her student teaching for learning disabilities at Great Lakes Elementary, a part of the ‘West Ottawa school district in Holland, Michigan. Morgan had experience working with students that are AI, SLI, LD, OHI and TBI. Morgan is a sensitive, friendly person. She demonstrated competence in her ability to teach in an elementary resource program that included push-in support in the general education classroom. Professional Dispositions and Teacher as a Person: Morgan demonstrated maturity and responsibility. She was both dependable and confident in carrying out all responsibilities placed upon her. Morgan evidenced initiative and was a strong team participant with her staff. She evidences a passion for special education and learning in general. Effective Communicator and Collaborator: Morgan is approachable and communicates a strong desire to improve and reach her potential as a beginning teacher. She listened and reflected on input received ftom both her supervising teacher and me, and worked on strategies to increase her effectiveness. Her interactions with staff, parents and students are professional, yet pleasant. She evidenced genuine care and concern for her students. Curriculum Developer: Morgan’s primary responsibilities were within the resource setting, utilizing a collaborative IB resource model. Morgan demonstrated the ability to design plans with her general education partners. She was thorough in her planning and chose activities that motivated her students. Her students were eager to work with her. Problem Solver and Decision Maker: Morgan evidenced growth in her ability to manage students. She will continue to develop increased behavior management skills with experience. ‘When students exhibited challenges to her, Morgan implemented techniques to address the challenge. Morgan is respectful towards her students and requires respect from her students, ‘She understands the importance of her role as mentor and teacher in the lives of her students. Overall: Morgan is a hard worker; she is organized and determined. She. developed a strong working relationship with her mentor teacher, the school staff in general and with me. Morgen has grown in her confidence throughout this placement. She will be a valuable asset to her future teaching staff and to the teaching profession.
