Artifact #3 Hazard Route Map Reflection
By creating this geographical map as a part of my Hazard Field Trip project, it has been
beneficial to my learning experience. In order to create this map, I needed to use this program
that Google offered in their system called Google Maps. By using these programs, it made me
learn and understand how to operate them by using lots of comprehension and analytical skills.
For this part of the Hazard Field Trip project, I am supposed to pinpoint three different
locations within the United States to do research on and create a map that represents the routes to
take. My research group chose three locations to do research on which were: New York City,
New York, New Orleans, Louisiana and Los Angeles, California. Our starting point was at
Pasadena City College located in Pasadena, California.
Google Maps was very simple to use because there was not a lot of options to work
with. All I had to do was to enter the three locations and pinpoint all of the locations by clicking
on the option of marking the locations. This helped keep track of where the locations are
located on the map. Also, the program had an option to present the paths that were needed to
connect all of the locations together. I believe by having the paths option available, this also lists
the distance between each location and also provide the total distance within all locations. By
having this option, this helps create the scale bar that is essential to a geographical map.
After completing this route map for the project, I have learned that locations need to be in
an order for the geographical map to show the distance. Depending on which location is inputted

first in the program, the distance will be measured by what location is next. So, by the end of
completing this route map, I learned to use my comprehension skills to search the locations
needed, measure the distance between all locations and provide a scale bar.
