Dica sat staring out through the window watching the white pellets of snow melt against

the glass. Her train of thought was suddenly broken by the sound of Birdy’s voice.

“It would be nice to make it out of the country someday,” Birdy smiled. “Maybe go to

Rome or Paris. I’d like that. I’d like it even more if you’d come with me.”

Dica didn’t bother to reply. She didn’t think Birdy had the luxury of time to be thinking

that way. She felt that if Birdy only had three months left to live, then she should have been

thinking more rationally. Her body would be deteriorating soon and she’d be lucky just to be

making it in and out of bed. She didn’t want to bring her down though, so she just kept her gaze

focused on those melting snowflakes.

“Where do you hope to go in the future, Dica?” Birdy asked. “I mean after your

graduation and all that; where are you going to go?”

Dica looked at her finally and shrugged. “Somewhere warm,” she smiled before looking

back out of the window.
